My Yeti

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd tell you the story of my Yeti. Bought about 2 years ago 140 TDi4x4 only options mud flaps, rubber mats and off road button.Mileage now about 15k and coming up for 1st variable service. Washed now and again, very much just a working tool and a mix of short and long journeys on good and bad roads.( I'm talking North Scotland here !!)

. Observations so far- Reliability : no problems Squeaks/rattles : none Issues to be addressed at first service : stone chipping on rear doors and a bit of worm on badges. Original Dunlops on 17rims hopeless on snow ice or mud so use 16s on vred wintrac from nov to apr. Thats about it, just a good tough bit of kit.

What's your past experience of the Vreds - I have them fitted this year but I haven't seen anything that could pass as snow or icy conditions in Cumbria so far. emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Welcome to the forum drum.

Thanks for your update Drum, glad to hear the yeti is as tough as it looks (especially scottish roads ). What milage are you getting out of the 110 engine.??

Mine is also now 2 years old and used mainly on the byways of north-east Scotland. has travelled 31,000 miles, had 1 variable service, has had all 4 doors repainted and protective film fitted to all 4, and has had all the fuel injectors replaced because of 2 faulty injectors. The original Pirelli tyres were replaced by 17 inch Michelin Pilot Alpins in November 2010 and haven't been changed since - still not even half worn after 17,000 miles! Fuel consumption is a pretty constant 43mpg and no oil has been added other than at the service.

The car is used as a workhorse and, I am afraid, is not cossetted like a lot of the other Yetis which are mntioned on this forum.

Ours is now 6 month old, now on 16" steel wheels and Vred Wintrac Extremes, but not a sign of snow anywhere here (Aberdeen). I think the money was well spent, but has kayboshed any chance of a hard winter :giggle:

When you say North Scotland, can you say where ?

I think that Auchreddie's abbreviated profile on the left gives you a clue... Aberdeenshire!

Which is a better clue than yours Hector old chap, which just says Scotland (says me, somewhat tongue in cheek!) :giggle:

Elsie is coming up for 13 months and she is learning to walk

She had crawled happily around London for the last 15,000 miles with only oneI breakdown where she would not start, and the recent foray off road through some deepish water where she threw her dummy out and went into limp mode. Aside from that she is the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Sorry for not getting back to all those folk who replyed to my thread. Overtaken by new year celebrations !!.Find the Vreds excellent in snow, ice, slush and standing water and would most def buy again. Average mpg (140Tdi 4x4) has been 43mpg. and for he who asked where in Scotland ? Strathnaver (about 30 miles west of Thurso)but not the most northerly Yeti in UK , saw a couple up in Orkney last summer but none in Shetland when we went up to Tall Ships in July.
