Trailer socket

Featured Replies

Hi folks, just a heads up for anybody, I heard that as from next year the trailer socket will now be included as part of the mot test or vehicles which are fitted with a tow bar, so it all has to be wired up an working properly..

just thought this might be of use to anybody who likes to maintain their own car like me..

It is only the new 13 pin that is tested, not the old 7 pin ones. Those only have to be securely mounted.

That could be interesting ! they are not all wired up to full spec, some cars out of the factory have not got the wiring for the (what was 12S) wiring things like Fridge, etc, and there are two types of 13 pin plugs on the market, although the 2nd is not that popular, and poss not used any more, but think it was fitted to German cars, so could be some still around.

The test is to ensure that the statutary lamps are wired up. It does not test fridge or battery charging. All that happens is that they plug in a test unit.

The only difference between the plugs you mention are that some do not include the pin connections for these "extras".

I really don't see what people are worrying about. I see too many trailers with broken/not working lights.
