VR6 clutch & G60 flywheel from TechniClutch eBay?

Featured Replies

Happy New Year everyone :)

The clutch has gone on my Octy VRS and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to fit a solid mass flywheel/clutch.

Reading the many posts, it looks like my best option is to get a Golf VR6 clutch & G60 flywheel. VWSpares.co.uk sell Sachs VR6 clutches but I'm struggling to find a G60 flywheel.

Then I came across TechniClutch who sell both clutch and flywheel at a very reasonably price. Only problem is most forum posts say to stay well clear of TechniClutch (parts not genuine, parts fail within weeks of fitting, etc, etc).

So I have two questions. 1: Is TechniClutch really so bad? 2: Can anyone recommend anywhere to get a G60 flywheel?

Part number for the flywheel seems to be: 028 105 269 B

EDIT: Just read that G60 flywheels can be bought through VW/Soda dealers. I guess this is the best option for me. However, I also note that Euro Car Parts sell a 'Valeo Solid Flywheel Conversion Kit' - anyone tried this?

Cheers,

Matt

stick to genuine/oe parts from known and trusted sources - then you have some comeback if/when they fail

most of the posts I've seen have been about them selling what some people (not the buyer) claim appear to be standard items as uprated

I took a risk and bought my kit from them, when i received it i checked all the part numbers on the plate and cover and they all checked out.

it generally seems to be there own clutches which are poor.

is it a genuine flywheel though? or some oe copy

Just get the flywheel from TPS

I believe it's a copy.

Just get the flywheel from TPS

TPS?

Thanks for all the quick replies - I'll prob look at getting a Sachs clutch from VWSpares and a genuine VW flywheel from a breakers (seem to go for about £50).

I've got a spare valeo VR6 clutch, friction plate and release bearing if your interested?

got mine from them,

Didnt pay that tho lol.

Looks ok to me, Took them a while to post it. iirc Flybikeslee got his from them too and had same probs but then again he was in a hurry where I am not. I went for the lightened one too.

cant say how good it is tho as its still in the box and prob wont get put on the car till next year now. mine is VOR for a year at least, pos 2-3 depending.

the flywheel is a copy, but looks fine. i am having mine fitted in the next few weeks so we will find out, but i have checked it all and IMO it is all genuine and new.

The g60 flywheel is not unique to that engine type, it's also used on the mk3 golf gti and some seat ibiza/cordoba models which have the 2.0 16v engine with abf engine code, they are ten a penny in breakers yards, I got one for a fiver from my local scrapper and just had it shot blasted and skimmed at a machie shop so it's like new now. That engine type also has an identical clutch kit to a vr6 engine too so if you are lucky you can get a half decent clutch from the same donor vehicle at the breakers yard.

Thanks for all your advice. I've nearly got all the parts and, so far, I'm under budget. However I'm still struggling to find a reasonably priced genuine flywheel.

Does anyone know if the 1996 VW Sharan 2.0 uses the G60 flywheel? It certainly looks very similar.

Thanks,

Matt

I dont think it's the same, what's the engine code? Part number?

Can anyone confirm if a '037 105 273 C' flywheel is the same as a '028 105 269 B'?

I'm lead to believe this flywheel was given a new part number some years ago for some reason, but the flywheels are identical. A few Corrodo G60 flywheels seem to have '037 105 273 C' stamped on them. :S

Cheers,

Matt

EDIT: I've just be told (again) that the 037 105 273 C is a G60 flywheel and also found on some 16v Passats. So it's identical (or at least very similar) to the 028 105 269 B. Some forums suggest the 037 105 273 C is lighter but I'm not such if this is true.

As way of closure to this thread, my VRS now has the G60/VR6 conversation. :)

The flywheel came from a Sharan but it's the same found in the G60, Golf GTI 16v, Passat 16v, etc, etc.

Clutch is REALLY light! And the car seems to be a lot more responsive.

:)

EDIT: I have a spare G60 flywheel for sale if anyone is interested: eBay link
