Belt squeeling under boost?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, got a new turbo and egr delete fitted yesterday and now when under boost I have what sounds like a belt slipping/squeeling, either that or have a very strange boost leak (but car doesnt feel any slower).

Anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be? I was thinking of trying a new AUX belt but from inside the car it sounds like its coming from the LHS of the engine?

Thanks,

Chris

I've had a squeal noise before where I had a slight boost leak but that was when I was fitting a pancake replacement pipe, uprated SMIC and various hoses on my previous Tollie - so plenty of opportunities for a leak somewhere! It does sound weird and can think its the belt.

How did they fit the boost hose onto the EGR delete pipe? Did they use the existing hose and remove the metal collar?

Was it just a new standard turbo fitted or hybrid?

Yeah mate just used the standard pipe with collar removed - i'm going to replace this with proper piping and silicone when I can.

Its a hybrid unit thats been fitted?

Could be this connection then that's making a squeal. Depends what other pipes were disturbed.

On my Tollie, the squeal was caused by a silicone hose connecting the pancake pipe to intercooler. Just wasn't sitting right on the intercooler inlet pipe.

BTW, are you still running a standard intercooler and map?

I have a slight squealing noise to Im getting the belt looked at sat, its not all the time though never thought of a boost leek. would you notice lack of performance with a leak?

No mate Seat Sport intercooler but stage 1 map?

I've checked the connection to the egr and it seems ok, not leaking oil etc. Im thinking it could be a leak in the boost pipes leading to the turbo?

Is it more noticeable at idle or when turning steering wheel whilst engine running but car is stationery? Could be the alternator pulley - I have had to change 3 of these on different cars so far!

Mine happen just before boost in 1st or 2nd and thats it, its done it 2 times 5 days

As you said the squeal was down to boost, I wouldn't have thought it would be on intake side.

It could be the turbo outlet hose, either into turbo hosing or into the straight pipe. Have you checked all piping from turbo outlet to intercooler?

About to do it tonight - after another drive im quite convinced its the connection to the egr delete. Sounds awful - like someone is getting strangled!

lol! I know exactly what you mean. You could try some sealant on the EGR delete pipe. Or try 2 jubilee clips or a Mikalor clamp.

Think we've found it! The egr blank on the turbo manifold is leaking air so we think thats it :) fingers crossed!
