Octavia 2007 radio displaying "phone"

Featured Replies

Hi

I have an Octavia 2007 1.9TDI.

Yesterday, when I unlocked the car, I was greeted by the CD player. It had been on for anything up to 36hrs! It was off when I last used the car so must have started itself.

Ever since this I keep getting the message "PHONE" interupt either the CD or radio. When this happens all sound is lost.

Driving to work this morning the radio was off but I still got this "PHONE" message popping up on the radio???

Anyone ever had this before?

I have never configured any phone with the unit. in fact its not a bluetooth enabled radio.

Cheers

Even though it's not Bluetooth-enabled, some headunits have wiring in place to be used by an external car kit (either an old-fashioned fixed cradle, or a Parrot-style Bluetooth unit). My old SEAT Leon used to have this functionality, I think when it detected a signal on the phone audio pin it would use this as a trigger to pause/mute whatever was playing, and instead route the audio coming from the car kit to your speakers (which explains why your sound is lost, this is how it's supposed to work).

Could be some kind of short within the radio which is causing it to detect something on whichever pin should be carrying phone audio and therefore it's muting itself as its designed to?

That's a set fault along with the set turning itself on.

There are a few flash updates for some of the head units.
