Parking sensor fitting

Featured Replies

Considering fitting parking sensors to my vrs and was wondering how I go about drilling I.e marking up bumper and making sure there all same hight and even gap across bumper? Is there any markings on rear for parking sensors?

Also advice on removing rear bumper would be good

You don't need to remove the rear bumper, certainly on a pre FL VRS anyway.

Do a search on here and you'll find a PDF which I made with the measurements on it. A £20 kit from ebay - the ones with audio only not the nasty looking led display for the dash. Use masking tape and before you even think about going near the drill remember the old maxin MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE!

There is nothing behind the bumper to get in the way and if you reach up behind and clean the surface of the back of the bumper with alcohol you can use the sticky cable tiw bases available from Maplins to keep the cables all neet and tidy. Run them into the booth via one of the rubber vent flaps, connect a wire to the reversing light and bobs yer uncle.

I ran a set of cheapy ebay sensores for two years without issue yet my factory fit ones on my new vehicle have crapped out twice on me!!

I'll have a hunt on my data for the PDF but it was a couple of years ago so god knows where it is!

Excellent information yes please see if you can find the pdf please as it would make my life so much easier

Personally I wouldn't be afraid of removing the bumper. Inside you will find markings for OEM sensors and there is easier access to the correct hole/gromet which is on the nearside behind the wheel.

I wrote my thoughts on fitting mine available here

There is also a link to a good guide to removing the bumper that I used.

It might only be my imagination: but I found little markings on the rear light cluster which, if one where to draw a line through them verticall, would line up with the OEM holes for the othermost sensors.

Just looked at guide for removing bumper and it seems like a mission also i have found the measurements from wardth. I think I will just follow that guide unless you can convince bumper removal is easy.

Would that only be the 2 outer sensors? As in the line you see on cluster?

Ordered sensors from eBay £49 but they will come colour coded and quality seems better than some of the cheaper kits.

It's just a waiting game

I fitted front and rear sensors and a rear camera to my Octy VRS. All perfectly easy without taking the bumpers off, ref to the hints above re finding the markings. I also checked the positions beforehand by comparing with the various pictures in the Skoda Brochure and on Briskoda. What would be a great help for threading the wires would be cable access rods, such as these:

50619 Toolbox Cable Access Kit 10 x 330mm

I was lucky in finding a set for £5 or £6 at the St Austell Cornish Market tool stall (about half the price of Toolstation). Plastic covered springy net curtain wire is good.

Wiring the camera was interesting, as there isn't a lot of room up the tailgate so some wires run up the left side, some cross over and go up the right hand side. Not hard, just patient fiddling.

Access through the front bulkhead means taking out the battery, then you will find a big grommet, rather like a cow's udder that will take the extra sensor wires.

Cheers

Clive

I had to take my bumper off to fit a tow bar. So I can see the attraction in not bothering.

By the way thick plastic garden strimmer "wire" is also good and cheap for threading wires.

Donovan - could you repost the PDF on here please as I can't find my copy.

In an attempt to avoid litigation I take no responsibility for any "issues" that may arise from you using the measurements :giggle:

Good luck and enjoy the "hit" you get from boring a 20mm hole in your lovely bumper!!!

  • 8 years later...

Is the wiring used for factory-fitted parking sensors in

Octavias in all cars and if so can it be used with aftermarket sensor kits?

You're 8 years late!

Hopefully someone will advise though.
