Top Mounts

Featured Replies

Hi all

I recently put a post up stating that i am about to treat my 1999 Octavia to a new set of front shock absorbers and springs.

However i have just got off the phone to a friend and he asked why i am not also replacing the top mounts????

as they usualy fail/perish

Is this neccesary/worthwile whilst i have her on the ramp

Many thanks

I would along with the bearing that sits under it.

Yes definately. Mine were shagged when they replaced my suspension with 120,000 on the clock I'm guessing yours being a '99 diesel will have done at least that?

Ive only had her 18 monhs and done 10k. But the guy i bought her off was a nice genuine type and he gave me all recent receipts and there was no hint of replacement at anytime.

The car is now very spongy and bottoms out on bumpy roads so it definetly needs something so think i will replace the lot.

Its more cost effective to do it all in one go. No point of putting new socks if your shoes have holes in. You will never really reap the benefits.

have a look over your bushes and stuff, lower wishbone bushes are common as muck to go.. Anti roll bar bushes, rear axle bushes
