Pheasant Plucker (well kind of!)

Featured Replies

I decided to drive the vRS to work for the first time yesterday instead of my usual old Megane. I had resisted the temptation all week as I didn

I have looked at the original grill I removed when I fitted the MSD one. It looks like three parts; the front frame surround (body coloured), the back frame (contains the slats), and finally the chrome insert as seen from the front. To me it looks like the rear frame containing the slats is just clipped onto the back of the front frame. The rear frame has part number 6YO 853 668 B embossed into it. I guess you'll have to see if the rear frame can be supplied as a separate item, if it is, then you may be able to carefully replace it.

Pheasants have to be one of the dimmest of all animals :) price sounds fine for the grill and fitting is quite easy as it all just clips together as described above. You can remove the whole grill from the front of the car by removing 4 screws that secure it to the bonnet. I had to remove my Octy grill to straighten the mounting brackets after an identical incident :)

Reminds me of two similar incidents:

When my Octy was a month old we went up to Edinburgh for a weekend away. On a country road I spotted something in the road, thought it was a dead hedgehog or something. The two cars in front went over it no problem. Then - crunch!. It was only a blummin' lump of sandstone  Damaged the plastic undertray and gouged the front subframe a bit.

The second was in New Zealand when I was driving a Toyota Hilux campervan. On a long straight doing 100kph a possum wandered out into the road. It was too late to stop and I wasn't going to swerve in that thing, so I lined it up dead centre..... THUNK! Oops - front axle hit it - poor bugger. I felt soo guilty!

Possums are as dim as pheasants!

But presumably a touch more substantial? :(

Unfortunately!!

About the size of a small dog.

We saw quite a few unlucky ones in our three week tour :(

Guess what, wrong part!

Can anyone confirm?

The replacement grille they sent me had no vRS badge fitted on it so I removed mine from the car assuming I would just transfer it. Behind the badge was double sided tape however on the original grille was a flat plastic portion firmly glued/formed to the slats. The replacement grille does not have this. I assume they have sent a non vRS grille in error as the flat portion must be to attach the vRS badge.

Of the various part numbers on the grille the only difference I can see is

Original on car: 001 01 117 513 00 01

Replacement: 002 01 117 513 00 01

Am I right that this is the wrong grille?

Would the correct grille come with the badge fitted or do I have to order a new one? (I don't really want to re-use this one now)

Cheers

Matt
