Head Unit Booster

Featured Replies

I have fitted a new shark fin aerial to my skoda fabia Mk1, because its a smaller aerial there is obviously going to be a signal drop. I was just wondering if there is a better booster you can buy to go in the oem synthany head unit? As the signal isnt totaly gone all the time just in some spots, so if i could get a booster that is better than the oem synthany head unit booster that would be great.

so can a better stronger booster be fitted??

manys thanks james

would that booster be better than the oem one and does it plug into the exact connections the exsisting one is in?

I understand the reason to fit a booster is that an aftermarket HU is unable to power the booster at the base of the aerial. It connects behind the headunit itself between the aerial plug and the headunit, and is powered by a blue wire from the headunit - on an oem stereo this is probably not there, and the ignition live would have to be used. There's probably a point at which boosting the signal merely amplifies the poor signal your receiving already. I'd consider it a limitation of the aerial you're using. Remember you can actually receive radio signals in strong signal areas with no aerial screwed into the base whatsoever. If an aerial is screwed in and not doing much over having no aerial plugged in, it's probably not a good one.

i do get all 5 set radio stations in my area without any aerial at all untill you hit certain spots in my town, the signal does get better overall while using my new aerial but isnt perfect, this is why im seeking a more powerful booster if these exsist? pretty sure its not the aerial becuase the signal does imporve.
