Change sidelights on FL wrap around xenon

Featured Replies

Hi!

I am about to change the sidelights to led-ones, but cannot find out how to do this. I have taken out the complete light, but as this is the FL model with the wrap-around lights I have no idea how to remove the bulb! The bulb is placed on the top of the light with no possibilities of picking it out from the backside of the housing.

I also wonder how it is possible to change the foglights and DRL`s? Am I supposed to pull out the part of the plastic mesh that is placed next to the foglight? Or are there some screws underneath?

The car is a 2012 model Octavia L&K tsi estate.

You either have DRLs or sidelights not both. Have you actually seen the "sidelights" come on?? I think your better off popping the fogs out, fitting CAN friendly 501 LEDS in and also fitting uprated fogs in at the same time.

Not actually correct - on FL L&K there are side light lamps as well as DRL in the fog lamps.

I haven't changed the side lamp bulbs myself, although the owners manual does give instructions on how to do this.

I would gues that the lamp unit has to be removed to get at the rear of it.

John.

To access the front fog lights and DRL's (non vRS) you need to first remove the plastic access panel in the grill next to the light unit.

To reach the bulb holders for the side lights (again non-vRS) it is better to remove the entire headlight assembly, once this is either removed or slid forward then you can get your hands behind the headlight to remove the side lights.

I am not supposed to use some tools to remove the plastic cover? Seems like it's stuck..

Regarding the sidelights I still don't understand. The only way I can see is to remove the outside glass of headlight to gain access to the bulb?

I will try to take some pictures later today.

I knew i'll probably get shot down for this but have you looked in the owners manual (people would rather spend 2 days asking on a forum than just open the owners manual)? There are instructions complete with diagrams showing exactly how to change each bulb......

Please tell me you are not thinking of changing the front fogs to anything other than standard white/yellow halogen bulbs.

Anything else, for example LED or white bulbs is a complete waste of time as they will reflect off the fog and actually decrease visability rather than increase it.

If you're going for "looks" only:

1. You should only have front fogs on when it's actually foggy.

2. When it's foggy nobody is going to be looking at your "cool white" fog lights and thinking how great they look.

The link to the manual was very helpful :-)

I tried to change the drl-bulbs to led-ones, but they did not even light up. Guess some kind of failure.. But the sidelights were changed to led-ones, and they still work;-) let's see for how long..

I'm wondering about the fogs too, I have never had the use of these lights in foggy conditions..

I'm putting my old sidelight bulbs back in today...of 10 LEDs in the two bulbs just one remains working...they also started to flicker quite soon after fitting. Am not going to bother again - good luck with yours!
