Monster has her first service; bit hit and miss

Featured Replies

Hard to believe the Monster has had her first service at 9919 miles on the clock; also had 3 other potential issues looked at while there. Unfortunately left the garage at lunchtime feeling a little disappointed with the service received.

Had arranged after talking with SUK to get the park sensor controller replaced, as the volume will not automatically adjust down to a lower level on the radio with the PDC engaged, other than to turn the radio volume off completely.

New module fitted and declared working - however it's not or it's not fixed the problem and to make matters worse the front park sensors have been totally disabled by the dealers recoding and they hadn't noticed this until I went back to point it out before driving home :swear:

Asked them to look at the DPF as it's regenerating every week now without fail, sometimes twice a day - agreed this sounded wrong, however the computer said no fault code, so it must be OK :mmm: Obviously thinking outside the box is beyond them :S

Also mentioned the coolant level, as it will not settle to a steady level. During the summer it fell twice, enough to warrant topping up, however recently it's been going up then falling back then going up again and this is at cold - they had no answer to this other than it passed pressure test without leaks and there was no oil detected in the coolant, so could I keep an eye on it.

Oh and a small thing; they made a right mess of the service book, incorrectly recording the mileage at 9199 and covered part of the page in globs of tipex from some other mistake they realised they made :(

Now waiting for them to book me back in to rectify the mess they have made of the PDC system

Hi Tim :'( to hear that you are still not having any luck with the PDC, and as for the service book how hard can it be to record the right info it makes you :wonder: if they are any good with a spanner or computer. Its a shame that your suppling dealer is so far away.

My dealer seams to be very good when it comes to anything you need done in the workshop (only had a few things looked at on the 1.2, 110 not been back for anything yet) my coolant level dropped once topped it up and has settled at a level now just below max, still not added any oil from new.

I haven't noticed a regen for months on mine even with the colder weather and swmbo doing her 20min run to work all week, I do tend to give it a bit of a rev at the weekends when I drive it though, tend to drive it a gear lower and keep the revs up to around 2000-2500 for a mile or two to help clean it out well.

Hope you can get the PDC issue resolved soon.

regards

Kevin

What journey types do you do? DPF's hate town and short journeys.

Mainly 36 mile commutes across the hills of the Yorkshire Wolds between Driffield and York, with a 5.5 mile national speed limit duel carriageway run on the final leg to work.

Last Yeti regen'd doing the same route once in a blue moon, hence my thinking something is amiss :wonder:

Oh she was regen'ing yesterday when I got home from work and again today after the 15 mile run from the dealers.

Hi Tim

sounds like a faulty pressure sensor to me :wonder:

My thoughts too, if not then one of the temp sensors giving a false reading. If any of these sensors are out of 'calibration', then their unlikely to show as a fault code. Had the same issues on aircraft, no preservable problem with a component but the system wasn't working as advertised, so change the component and see what happens.

Sadly these days dealers won't do this in case they cannot claim it under warranty, or their techs haven't got the depth of system knowledge or understanding needed for proper fault finding :wonder:

Good point, Tim !

When my seat controller was playing up, my dealer robbed one off a showroom Superb, as they were worried SUK wouldn't credit them if they ordered a part which wasn't needed!

Same story with the faulty telephone control unit.

Looks like a massive gap in diagnostic training?

Can't remember where abouts in the East Riding you are, do you use Hull or York for the dealers - I use Hull, and while they've yet to do anything wrong in terms of mucking things up, they're not exactly speedy, been made to wait far too many times, time keeping is something which they don't excel in!!!

The former rather than the latter, as their approach to customers is by far the better of the two (since Beevers left anyway), however neither fill me with confidence in regard to technical aptitude/ability. Other option is Pickering but if the work they've done on my son's Fabia is anything to go by , then they can only be described as technically inept. Would avoid like the plague, unless they have recruited a totally new service team recently that is.

When were you last at DM Keith in York?

Dougie and Kerry on the front desk are both spot on. If it wasn't in the last sixth months (not mentioning names) then I agree it was pretty poor.

didn't fancy variable servicing?

November last and no I wasn't impressed. Were not ready for my arrival despite prior booking and were not willing to listen to what I was saying; got the impression that they didn't understand the issue with the PDC system, so best get me out the door ASAP with a fob off.

No not a fan, think even with modern oils etc. 18k is far to long for the oil to be washing about collecting contaminates in a diesel engine. When I served on the BBMF a stricter oil change regime was introduced on the RR Merlins & Griffons due to high cam wear (at the time cams were hard to come by) which appeared to work.

If it's the same guy who I think it is he told me the xenon headlights on my Scout didn't self level because it was a 4x4 :dull:

I'd definitely give them another go now though, most of the techs are the originals from back in the day it was run by Pulleyn's / Beever's. It's amazing how the person on the desk can ruin an otherwise good dealer.

The guy I mainly spoke to after getting past the clueless chap on the desk, was fairly youngish in appearance with short blonde hair. Very hard work to deal with; quite arrogant being my lasting impression, which is a pet hate with me, particularly when you can smell a fob off. The tech he 'wheeled out' to say NFF was not one I recognised from the previous owners days.

Hi Tim

Sorry to hear of your problems re servicing.

I noticed that MSB at Darlington (where I got Scarlet from) has had good reviews re servicing on the forum.

I might be tempted to go there when Scarlets first service is due, even though it is about 60 miles from home.

Dave

Hi, I can confirm that MSB has good service, took my Yeti for some warranty work, was very well looked after.

Yep he's the same one who tried to fob me off educate me about my xenon's, nice lad just pretends to know more than he does. He didn't last long on the front desk and was quickly taken off his 'customer facing' role :giggle:

If she had not finished the regen the day before, she'll do it again next time the temps are up to it, so that part seems normel.

I nowadays do lots of short trips daily - <5 mile round trip to town in the 170. Regens are every few weeks or so - and mostly after/during a little longer trip.
