front hub bearing issues

Featured Replies

Ive noticed today the front hub has stripped threads on 3 of the 5 wheel nut holes. Im 90% sure its the hub and not the wheel bolts as ive tried the good ones in the bad holes. The easiest way is getting a new hub and bearing pressed in?

I got one off a scrapped ibiza and replaced the whole passenger hub assembly.

Im pretty sure you can replace the bearing and hub but the parts are around £70. Scrap parts cost under £20 and i fitted it myself

If you get a new bearing and hub you will have to take this to a garrage to get it pressed out and the new one back in

Thought of getting a scrapper hub but dont wanna take the the chance with the bearing. Ive been quoted £30 for the bearing and hub and ive got a mate who has access to a hydraulic press. Just trying to get advice on the best way really.

I think ill get a new one pressed in.

Thanks for the reply

If you use a press make sure when it's pressed in you don't press on the face of the hub, this will knacker the bearing.

Correct method is not to use a press but to use a puller which can be done with the bearing housing still mounted to the car.

so use a puller to pull the old hub out of the existing bearing? Then what??

OR get the bearing and hub assembly and use a puller from the rear to pull the new assembly into the housing?
