Warranty issue - what do I do

Featured Replies

Hi

bought my 2001 vRs in November/December time from a local Skoda dealer. All has been fine until yesterday with the warm weather - I tried to use the air conditioning (climate control whatever you want to call it) and guess what its hardly producing any cold air at all, certainly not enough to cool the car down when its been sitting in hot weather :(

Having not tested that during Winter I looked at my warranty and it states the air conditioning unit refridgerating refreshment is not covered :( Thing is shouldn't this have been working when I bought the car from them, ie I wanted a car with air conditioning, now I have come to use it it doesn't work.

How much does it normally cost to get the refrideration refreshed? Not that I can afford to get it done currently no matter how much it is. Not impressed, I got my first car with air conditioning and the first bit of warm weather we get and I think ooh this will be good and it doesn't work :( :thumbdwn: Times like this I wish i'd kept the scooby

You're supposed to use your air conditioning at least once a month...pretty sure this is mentioned in the handbook. Given the timescale, you can't be 100% sure that the car was sold without working air conditioning...either way, could be worth approaching the dealer who sold you the car - if it's a car from the Approved Used network, it will be covered by a 1 year warranty which I believe covers everything the "new car" warranty should cover. If nothing else, they'll be able to ascertain whether it needs a re-gas, or if it's another problem.

Re-gas is normally about

Thank you for your reply. Just to clarify I have used the climate control ever since I got the car but only on warm for the winter so the cold option had never been tested until yesterday. Surely the refridgeration gas only gets used when the cold option is used?

Yes the dealership is calling me back Tuesday to talk about it (also about a loud squeak coming from the suspension) so will have to wait until then.

Just wanted to ask others opinions as to where I stand expecting the climate control to work on cold as I hadn't used the cold setting since purchasing the car.

If it's owt like mine, it'll be expensive - turns out that a stone through the condensor ain't covered on warranty

Don't know if this helps but here goes......

there is a common, well known fault with the VAG air con compressor where the "clutch arm" disconnects itself.

(Note, I can't be much more specific than that as I don't know much about the aircon but read about this a few months ago when my aircon packed up and I assumed it was low refrig gas).

Turned out to be a quick fix to reconnect the "clutch arm" and hey presto! working aircon again.

All the reading I have done suggests its very unusual for the whole lot to fail leading to an expensive job although I have heard a load of people telling me about "stones through the condensor" which suggests a design fault to me as I've never had that happen on any other car with aircon...........

I suspect this may be a "to be continued thread" ?

Cheers for the replies. I am presuming it is just the refridgeration gas as it blows out air OK, it just isn't very cold air, certainly nothing comparable to other cars i've been in with air conditioning. Got in the car yesterday and it was roasting inside as it had been left in the sun, had the climate control on lo full blast for 20 minutes and it didn't cool the car down at all so ended up opening all the windows

Sounds like a re-gas may be needed.

exactly same fault mine had........

and it turned out to be the compressor clutch arm not the gas, fixed FOC

just get it looked at by dealer if its still within warranty, if they are any good they will have a quick look for you FOC and either fix it if its that simple or point you in the right direction

B2Z,

Let the dealer have a look first, hopefully you will be lucky and it will need a regas or the clutch arm refitting.

Even when blowing warm the aircon works to dehumidify the air in the cabin. On a wet day when you are running the car in ECON mode and the heater is on, pressing the auto button usually results in a noticable increase in crisp dryness to the cabin air quality. Very usefull for quickly demisting the windows as well.

Cheers

Cheers guys :)

Well dealership is going to look at it but not until the 16th of April  Just been reading the bottoming out thread and concerned me somewhat, my driveway has a steep drop down from the pavement and several times I have heard the underneath of the car scrape so am now thinking I should get this checked to make sure it hasn't done any damage. Do they need a fair whack to do damage or will slow scraping do more than just scratches?

I'd check it out anyway - scraping is never good for any car.

Hopefully the dealer will be able to sort you out for free / low cost :)
