What size wheel spacers?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Im currently running 20mm (each side) H&R hubcentric spacers on the back of my Ibiza. When I had standard suspension & a Whiteline RARB they were great - however now Im running KW V1 coilovers it feels very over-steery when pushing hard. Im thinking the rear may be too wide now.

Would I benefit from going to 15mm spacers? I dont really like the idea of spacing the front or is this safe?

What are you guys running? (For spirited road use and track use)?

Thanks

Chris

Spacing the front is no different to spacing the rear safety wise.

My understanding is that spacing out the rear on a FWD car produces under steer. Albeit not usually enough to be noticed on a car that's used under standard conditions on the road.

The fabia is pretty bad at handling on standard suspension. You definitely notice more response from the rear after fitting coilovers, not to the severity of over steer though. It's probably just this.

hang on, you change suspension and say the same spacers make the car feel different? Surely the difference is in the new suspension and changing the spacers will do absolutely nothing? Changing the spacers will not affect anything apart from appearance really. Its probably more oversteery due to the coilovers being a bit stiffer so now less is being soaked by the suspension and more fed out into the tyres.

Try 2 things, tone down the rear anti-roll bar (the hole at the end of the bar is softest), and get the alignment checked.

Also, what heights are the coilovers set to? Lowering the rear, even 10mm will make a difference to the effectiveness of the RARB (should reduce roll, hence the RARB effect).

Still got the RARB. What setting?

Maybe softening it will give you the handling youre looking for

Yeah I've changed it to stiffer when i changed from ap's to kw's so will back it off a bit! I just wasnt sure if bringing the back wheels in a bit would help too - but obviously not :)
