wing mirror change

Featured Replies

this is my first time posting.

i would like to change a passenger wing mirror (electric).

Its an octavia 07 plate 1.9 litre. I have already purchased the wing mirror

but would like a little advice on how to change it,

thanks

scott

Remove the door panel by taking the cover off the handle and undo the 2 x 30 torx, remove the tweeter cover (with the electric window switch) and there is a 25 torx behind it, then remove the 2 x 25 torx at the bottom of the door card, then it the matter of giving it a decent pull to remove (you will probably break a few of the clips so be prepared to order a few at about 45p each), then undo the torx holding the plastic cover on the inside of the door where the mirror access is and a few more clips hold the cover on. Then u will see a piece of foam which covers the bolt (think its a 45 torx). You will see that it's just the matter of ur clipping the electrical plug and then reverse order to refit. Pretty simple really.

lol :) there aint much that i aint removed and refitted on mine, through necessity mind, i aint a weirdo who wakes up sunday morning and decides to pull their car to bits :giggle:

I never charge :p (so to speak) and my how to will be in all cr4p bookshops soon (free to all the good people at briskoda :))

Yea give the dealer a ring and say u need door panel clips and they will know exactly what your after as they break all the time! They have changed the design of them now (well they have a my local dealership) and their black and kind of a swirl shape which are a lot better than the green ones that just fall apart!

A couple of pictures - worth thousands of words...

The door panel is held on with:

2 * T10 screw on the bottom edge (just feel along to find them)

Take the speaker grill off, there is a screw down the hole under the door handle (right alongside the speaker)

Take the top half of pull handle off - prise it apart starting at the front - you notice the back sort of twists up from the door

There are three screws down the holes that are revealed once the handle is off

you can see the multi-connector for the electric window controller.

Once the screws are out

put something under the door to rest the panel on once it's off (so it's not hanging on wires) ... drinks crate?

- Make sure the window is down (remember you can hold the unlock button on the key fob for this if you've removed the control buttons)

- pull the panel off starting from the bottom - three press clips to release at the front and back edges

- then lift the top edge out the channel by the window opening.

If you are doing this to fix the mirror - the vent panel twists off

- pull the hinge corner away from the door a little -to dis-engage a plastic pin that goes into a hole in the door

- push the bottom of the assemble forward to disengage the visible clip

- there is a similar clip at the top you cant see - it disengages vertically (can't remember if it goes up or down - but comes apart easy once the bottom one is off)
