gears..

Featured Replies

I am having issues with my car shifting into gears one in particular issue is going form 6 to 5th its just wont go, i have to go to nutural or 4th then 6th

I had a helix SMF clutch kit fitted 5 months ago and it was never a problem until recently, any suggestions ?

Can you go from 4th to 5th?

Can you select 5th with engine off?

I have this problem but with 1st and 2nd gonna change the oil

Cable adjustment if it's only one gear that's hard to engage. Or, worn syncro hub for 5th gear. Also check the dogbone mount, as it's famous for causing this. Especially if the old bolts where re-used when the box was out for clutch work.

cheers people speaking to two experts the syncro for changing down from 6th to 5th is something that tends to go so this could explain the issue, i am getting a quote to have the gear box re built

Cool lets us know how you get on

will do mate....

Not sure if the shifter forks inside the box can have anything to do with this? Would change oil & ensure cables all clipped up first though.

i am running it into browns thursday as they fitted the clutch to see if they can see anything

Check the selector shaft on top of the gear box before booking in anything big.

My selector shaft was loose and I couldn't select 6th gear. A new nut sorted it out.

My mates fabia had the same problem also, so maybe a common thing

U can't select 4th unless I go slightly into third. Goes into all gears fine when stationary and when it does go into 4th there's no crunch.

Is this linkage as well? BTW its a replacement box fitted by unit 18.

Ment to be 'I'.

Also to add 3rd to 4th is fine. It's just changing down.

It could be. It only takes two minutes to check.

Remove your air feed and you'll see the selector arm, give it a wiggle, there shouldn't be any play.

If there is play would it be a new nut as someone said previously or adjusting the cables?
