few thoughts on dogbone/RARB

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I finally got around to doing both these mods today.

So far I am a little unimpressed.

Dogbone:

I bought the yellow powerflex bushing from awesome, nearly went for the superpro one for and extra £20 kinda glad I didn't though.

Lets start with the basics. Fitting it. Getting it off was quite easy had a bit of an issue with the end bolt in the dog bone being a little bit stiff and ended up smashing my hand into the subframe? ouch!

Once out I would say it helps having a vice to hold it as you undo it. Easy enough to fit the new bushes but gawd! how difficult was it trying to get the center bolt back in afterwards! we ended up having to use a bearing press to compress it enough to catch the nut on the other side. I would really like to know how others got over that one.

Once fitted I was hoping for some miracle change. My car judders a lot before it bites in first. I was hoping this would solve it but instead makes it more noisier, maybe even worse! And the cabin noise whilst idling is a bit excessive but I am waiting for it to bed before I complain about that. But I can't really say its made anything better as such.

Whiteline RARB:

Not really much to say about this one. **** easy to fit apart from the previous owner bending the u-bolts making it difficult to pop off the backing plates.

But so far (with light testing) it has appeared to stop body roll a fair bit. I did a sharp zig zig going along and the car went left, right, left, right rather than left, right in a minute, left in a moment, I think il just stay left. Because it was raining I haven't pushed the boat out on it. Currently running it at 24 mm

Back to a point I made earlier...

What do you think the juddering in first gear maybe? I have only just had the clutch changed to a SMF so please don't tell me it is that!

Also ever since I had my coil pack change it doesn't seem to be as viscous as it use to be. I wondered maybe it was me getting use to the speed. Engine wise there are no funny sounds and no change in the engine. Really I need a boost gauge to tell and RR day to fully tell about power but it still pulls like a train with a rocket up its arse!

I had the Powerflex uprated dogbone mount bush fitted a few days after I bought the car and apart from making more vibration I couldn't feel any difference. To be honest I hope is does bed in because as you say at idle the cabin is not a very place to be at the moment. My car also has SMF fitted and I get a small amount of judder too which is now amplified by the uprated bush. I have read a few threads on here which say to do a few quick starts in the car to try and get the clutch etc to bed in but I don't know if that will really help that mauch. I think it may be just something i'll have to put up with.

i originally had a powerflex dogbone bush, i refitted the bush by hand....just (and it wasnt fun), the reason i changed it is that it vibrated too much at idle, you can adjust your idle a bit so it doesnt vibrate so much (that can help) but its no gtee, and in the end i fitted superpro when i did my other bushes.

Thats why we all tend to suggest superpro bushes nowdays

used a vice! mine went o/k and easy, my sons was a right pig!! but got there in the end!!

as for noise!! I am thinking of taking mine off!! sounds like the exhaust in hard on the floor with no rubbers on !! noise does go when you get a bit of speed up!

but saying that changes gear better!! but its very rare I drive my vrs! so might put up with it! for the odd

times she comes out the garage!!

my son likes his!!

Mine bedded down after about two weeks only notice when in another car now how quiet the standard one is.

Mind I did mine years ago !!

I wouldn't say it does a lot other than stop wheel hop really, maybe better gear changes but I can't remember tbh

I opted for the superpro bush as I read the powerflex bush was a little noisy/harsh etc (have had their bushes on previous cars and never really been a fan) And it was brilliant. Gearchanges are so crisp since having it done. For the first month or so before the bush had settled the cabin would vibrate at certain resonance.. mostly when at fast idle. but it's fine now

it really does stop wheelhop/spin assuming you have decent tyres fitted as well to help out

I have superpro dogbone bushs in mine and after fitting they were awful for about a week, felt like it was shaking car to bits, after that it settled down,

Car seems to get power down better now and gear changes seem more precise, still abit of a vib on idle but nothing excessive

anyone here fitting the powerflex red bush - softer compound which is meant for diesel engines but will fit the petrol too

Hi mate, yeah I've fitted the red one to mine. Read quite a few reviews that the yellow one was too harsh so opted for the red version.

It made a big difference as the original was well worn. The engine feels connected to the car now (if that makes sense).

For the first few weeks there was a slight amount of cabin vibration at idle but now its fine. Hope that helps

Also have the red one fitted to mine, it's a decent upgrade for not a lot of cash. There is slightly more vibration at idle but it has settled down now its bedded in and does not bother me at all. There was a thread not long ago titled 'giving the dog a bone' or similar.

My vrs has a yellow ( power flex ) I think and my golf gti turbo has a purple superpro one and honestly I can't fell any difference

Hacked it around tonight...

Omg the rarb makes the car handle so much better! At speed the dogbone does help but still rattles the car to ****. Hopefully this will change after my trip to surrey.

I only went powerless because everyone said it was ok Haha.
