Leaking 04-plate TDI Estate - Help!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

I'm new here, so please bear with me whilst I get to know my way around the site...

I have an 04-plate Octavia 1.9TDI Estate, which has started letting water in around the courtesy light. I leave it parked up on the driveway at night, and when it's rained, there's about a quarter of a pint of water drops out around the courtesy light fitting when I get in the following morning. This morning the gearstick console was swimming when I got in.

The headlining is like a sponge, but only around the courtesy light fitting - Nowhere else. the "sides" of the headlininng where it drops to form the bowl for the light fitting are wet, but there's no sign of wetness coming from either side of the car.

I am wondering if it's the windscreen seal that's failed, although from outside there doesn't look to be a break in it. There's no water runs down the inside of the windscreen either.

I also don't have roofbars fitted, there's just one continuous strip either side of the roof from the tailgate which goes right to the bottom of the windscreen. How do I remove these to check the drainage holes?

Any help much appreciated, as it's getting damned annoying, and I don't have mega-bucks to spend on it!

All the Best,

Rick Roper.

Does it have a sunroof fitted? I am guess your is ambiente trim (due to lack of roof bars).

No sunroof fitted. It is in Ambiente trim, yes.

Is your drive on a slope / angle?

Well, when I park at home the car faces uphill, and I've never noticed a problem, apart from the boot floor on the nearside being wet, around the CD changer. This could well be the rear washer pipe though, which I've had clipped back together once.

I then park on my Girlfriend's drive which is just about level, and it leaks like a sieve. It's only started doing this about a month ago though - I've parked all over the place in all weathers prior to this without any trouble.
