Clattery at idle

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I bought a tuning box from here; http://kingquick.co.uk/store/home.php, just under a year ago now. All has been well with the car obviously pulling better etc etc,

However the other day my mate was parked up in his vrs at tickover and his just seemed to sound a bit smoother than mine. We both have 04 plates and his has roughly 80k on whereas mine has 48k. It had been bugging me for a few days so I decided to remove the tuning box tonight for a little test. Sure enough mine sounded a little smoother and how can I put it 'relaxed' without the tuning box on.

What I want to know is, should I worry about running the car with the box or is it just a normal characteristic. There are no other strange noises with the box on, perhaps just whistles a little more as the turbo spools up quicker but I am hoping to keep my vrs a bit longer and don't fancy any big un-neccesary bills.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers Joe

Tuning boxes are generally crap. Save up for a remap, rather than just a resistor which tries to fool one of the many sensors in your engine, therefore throwing the whole lot off kilter.

If you actually paid £300 for that, you're a bit of a mug, you could have had a Shark or similar map for that price and been much better off...

Check your oil level.

I have found if its not on max the engine makes some random ticking noises and all sorts.

Cheers, Oil level is pretty near the top, but like I say it sounds fine without the box, just a little noiser with the box. I think my question has been answered however.....We all live and learn I guess

More injector noise due to over fueling from the tuning box. Stick VCDS on it, with and without the tuning box and look at injection Qty per stroke per cylinder.
