Hi im Steve,

I'm from the east midlands and im 22, I recently came into abit of a predicament i needed a spacious reliable diesel after a few weeks of looking around i came across a 99' octavia estate glx 90 bhp abit battered full service history and it wasent an ex taxi but high motorway miles 225.000 roughly, it was advertised for £700 ono with 9 months mot and 3 months tax bargain however managed to get him down to £465 :)

it had the following faults

* Its white

* Rattling dmf .... i resolved this with a new dmf from andrew paige for £218 for the full kit :) i did look at the smf conversion but they were not much cheaper... it took me about 6 hours with my friend on my driveway

*rust on rear arch from a badly repaired dent (rust causing the filler and paint to bubble ) - not resolved due to being winter months and its too cold to repair myself

* Alternator tensioner/clutch worn out over time - not resolved yet its not that noisy yet

* rear window wiper didnt work - went to the local breakers couldent find one of the same year so i took one off a 2002 octy estate however i had to change the wiper arm and re route the washer fluid pipe upto the 3rd brake light and change the 3rd brake light to suit the new motor i also got a bag full of goodies things that may brake or need changing bulbs interior lights newer radio antenna as mine had perished and other odds n sods £15 happy days :) ( Spring lane now known as coopers in lambley,nottingham)

so overall a bargain and i must say its very practical and does everything i ask it to do i cant see me ever going back to the likes of any other car makers that arent german superb build quality and its a basic model ! ive reacently came across a few niggly faults which if i could pick somebodys brain for abit of advice please ?

these faults are

* instrument cluster failiure - i have removed fuse 15 to enable me to have a speedo again after resoildering the vaultage regulator on the pcb board inside the cluster this worked for about a week the failed again :(

* ABS light on but goes off intermitantly - i have had the car on diagnostics it was the drivers front sensor so i changed the sensor and the fault still occurs

many thanks the newbie steve :)
