Is it really a Skoda warranty or just a dealer add on?

Got to wonder why VAG are only doing 3 yrs when the likes of Toyota are giving 5 yrs as standard. Is the VAG product so inferior?

Iirc, it is £300 for the Fabia 5 Year Warranty. The small print states it can only be taken out at time of ordering your vehicle, but if you don't ask, you don't get.

Seems strange you can't top it up during the 3 year warranty, I would have gone for the extra warranty emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

toyota offered 5 year warranty to try to rescue the damage caused by the brake failures, it was a marketing ploy to try to win back customer confidence imo and offset some of the damaged image.

edit: the 5 year warranty came out just after the brake failures..they launched a major ad campaign to try to rescue/ reduce the damage to the brand image

So, how do you explain Hyundais 5 year warranty and KIAs 7? Its a disgrace that VAG offer such short warranties when they keep banging on about how much better their cars are. The truth would be that 5 year warranties on all of VAGs stuff would cost them a fortune!

the korean car companies offering 5 or 7 year warranty (albeit not on every part of the car) as a marketing tool and make people think their cars are as good as european car's reliability, they need to offer extra something..this something is spec and the extra warranty for the price to try to win customers off eu or japanease car buyers, it's obviously worked to some extent. i doubt their sales will be as high if their cars are similar price and specced as non-korean cars.

the trade off is high depreciation...it's like paying the extra on a skoda but obviously it's going to be higher depreciation.

skoda/vw can offer a 5 year warranty but the rrp will have to be higher to compensate. someone at vag probably has done the maths..

VAG would incur extra expenses with an extended warranty but it is likely to be offset by additional income from servicing and getting more customers due to a better warranty. Audi and VW make a big point about quality so why not put their money where their mouth is. Maybe Skoda wouldn't do it as they are a lower priced option.

i think they promoted it more after the brake issue.
