stopped by police today

Featured Replies

Got stopped today by the police for the first time in 16 years. The officer said i was using a mobile phone at a set of traffic lights.I said thats impossible. He asked to check my call log which i said was fine but i would have to get my phone from my coat which was in the boot.I have to say his face was a picture, but he still checked my call log and then said i must have a second phone.I said you can check the car and me which he did for at least 15 minutes. You could see he was getting p*ssed of because he had nowt on me.He then let me go on my way.To make things worse when i pulled out on to the road a car came past with the driver on his mobile phone.I am one of those drivers who never uses there phone while driving, its one of my pet hates.I suppose driving the wifes audi tt didn't help too........

Why would that make any difference ?

Any chance you could have been scratching your head/ear or something? I am surprised that this went on so long.

I also never use my phone while driving. Sometimes I feel I really need to invest in a bluetooth type of setup. My last resort is phone on my lap with it on speaker mode, but even that feels wrong even if essentially hands free... - you still have to press answer and speaker mode on the phone itself before....

Because they're usually driven by hairdressers who can often be found applying their makeup and drinking their morning latte while they natter to their hairdressing colleagues on the blower.

It's still better than a lot of headunits though Jason. For me to make a call in the car (phone auto-pairs and syncs address book when I get in) I have to either:

1) Push the "make call" button on the headunit. This puts it into "number dial" mode, but no input seems to work so you can't actually put a number in (plus who the hell wants to spend time dialling a full phone number on a radio headunit while they're driving? Madness, Kenwood, utter madness). Instead, I have to push in the volume control knob WITHOUT pushing it up/down/left/right, which gets it into phonebook mode. Then I can either rotate the knob clockwise/anti in order to pick a letter then another perfectly precise knob push to choose that letter. Then more twist scrolling to find the right name, and another precise push and hold to make the call. All the while trying to look at the road and the HU at the same time. Alternative modes include recent incoming/outgoing calls, all of which need more EXACT volume knob pushing without knocking it in any direction otherwise it reads your joystick input and does more weird things.

2) Unlock my phone, find the contact I want with ~3 button presses, push "Call" and then put the phone down and get my hands back on the wheel and my eyes back on the road.

Generally I don't do either, I just wait for people to call and I have my phone set up to autoanswer after 3 seconds (because to answer on my Kenwood, you need yet another mm-perfect volume push, the nice easy to find "make call" button actually hangs up the call), but if absolutely forced, I take option 2.

Auto answer app on Android is very good - no need for Bluetooth, just activate it before your journey and away you go

I might need this, but would be annoying if I forgot to turn it off after :D

I've done that before - very annoying for those ringing you
