Hi

been on here a few times once owned now in my sons custody a L&K 02 Octavia estate Did consider a VRS at one point .Will get down to the question in hand I have seen and driven the special offer deal £8999 Fabia 1.4 petrol 16 valve 86 bhp how good is it .I noticed it is the only engine in that range all are 1.2 TSI 86 ps or 105ps.

Is it old hat and just trying to get rid of these old unit or is it a good engine do not want to buy some thing just on price and find out no on wants them years down the line what with omissions on a lot of peoples minds are set on cheap road tax this one is band E £115 the 1.2 are D at £0 for the first year then £95 next year .Any info would be great also MPG is this lees efficient plant as opposed to the 1.2

Hi Brian,

In late December when these offers were pre-released a member did start a topic in Fabia II regarding the engine and peoples thoughts and it had many replies and a varied response.

The TSI is the newer engine, no 2 ways about it, road tax wise, in your second year of ownership (at todays prices) RFL will cost you £95 TSI and £115 MPI, £20 difference is not bad at all.

Fuel consumption is slightly better in the TSI but will cost an extra £1000 or so to purchase in the first place.

Servicing should be nigh on the same as well.

Hope this helps a bit more but by all means have a look in the Fabia II forum and see what the other members think.

Lee

Hi Lee, thanks for this info - good to know! Brian's post is now making me wonder whether I've made the right decision, haha! Will check out the Fabia II forum. Cheers!

Drove a 1.2TSI 86 today and it was a nice drive ,would have liked to have driven a 1.4 MPI 86 back to back but the only one they had was sold to a customer so that was not on .I inquired at the service dept about costs over a long period of ownership as we plan to keep this for a long time as now retired and only need one car for daily use as i have weekend toys to use.

What was interesting is the 1.4 needs the cam belt changed every 80.000 or in my case 4years cost £380 at todays rate the 1,2 is a chain drive so will not need done add in higher fuel costs and road tax and you could be £500 down so the £1000 saving does not look such a good buy and on resale the 1.2 may get you a bit more ££ .

Have not made my mind up if this is the route i want to go ,but thanks for peoples input.

Brian
