Does 18" alloy & tyre fir in spare wheel well?

Featured Replies

As per the title......Does a standard 18" alloy and tyre fit in the wheel well?

I only ask because my spare isnt an 18" and although I have a can of tyre weld I would much prefer an actual spare wheel but dont know why it isnt fitted?

I need an 18" rim to fit over my brakes so the standard spare I have doesnt fit (I think its 17")

Personally I would physically remove one and try it, because a 225/40/18 does NOT fit in a Superb Estate spare wheel well with the variable boot floor (when the tyre is fully inflated)

Skoda only supply 205/55/16 spare wheels and tyres, when you order the spare wheel option (they no longer come as std)

*A 225/40/18 may fit if you placed the wheel in the hard way - that is put the tyre into the rear of the spare wheel well 1st (the edge closet to the bumper) but considering how much they weigh I did not try too hard to do this.

I'm already under the assumption that an 18" and inflated tyre does not fit otherwise they would supply it as an option when you upgare to 18" wheels.

BUT.....I dont know for sure and i've never tried it so thought i'd ask the question just in case someone either knows if it fits or they have tried it themselves

Driving through Europe later this year and the only thing I will struggle with WRT different Countries being legal will be a fully working spare wheel

Cant be anything smaller than an 18" wheel due to the size of the brakes :p

Looks like i'm going to have to get my hands dirty and try it for myself. Might wait for it to warm up a bit first :D

Yes it fits

Its the same diameter as a 205 55 16 wheel and tyre as fitted in my boot

+1

it will fit in as I've put mine in there when I've had a slow puncture. Can't remember if the spare kit will fit back in as well

Yes the diameter is the same BUT the 16" spare is 20mm narrower, it is this extra with that makes it fowl on the trim in the Superb

OK...This is the Octavia II Section...Not Superb

bluevrs2 (Alan) has an 18" Alloy sitting in his boot as we speak

Which is why I said:

Had a little chuckle out loud at that :giggle:

It DOES fit complete with the jack and tools. The 20mm makes no difference. I have an 18 in my boot fully inflated ready to use and my carpet is flat. Don't know if the same is true if you have VBF. I posted a few pics last year to prove it, if you can find the post.....?!???
