Fabia VRS vs Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Yes, I'm serious.

Because the Mk2 Fabia VRS has decent performance from it's TSi engine, don't the figures suggest that it's a match for the Octy VRS TSi ?

To be a little more accurate, my Fabia has about 200bhp (similar to the Octy) but I have not driven the Octy VRS, so can't comment.

Please, serious replies ideally from real experiences and not 'my car's bigger than yours' emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Well in what way are you comparing them? Just all out speed? Seems a little pointless, they are two different types of car, they might have a close matched 0-60 but thats about it.

My post clearly asks for opinions based on experiences.

Acceleration, mid-range, handling. I'd like to hear from guys who have driven both.

It's because the 2 cars have similar performance figures that intrigues me, plus the fact that they have very different engines and character.

Where's the popcorn?

Oh, iv driven a Fabia, feels fast.

*passes Martyn's popcorn over*

Fabia:

177bhp / 184lbs-ft

1243Kg

7.1 to 60mph

140 mph

Old chassis, high centre of gravity

Octavia:

197bhp / 207lbs-ft

1360kg

7.0 to 60mph

150mph

Independent suspension,

Says it all, to be honest.

Fabia is a perfectly adequate hatch in the segment it's in, but more money gets you a bigger car that handles better, and is quicker :)

I'd be happy with either, to be honest. They both feel very different, and the Fabia especially belies it's 1400cc! I was astonioshed at the way it piled on speed when I took one out. As expected, the Octavia feels more "naturally muscular" (difficult to describe... it's like the difference between my current Mk1 Octy vRS and my old Golf VR6 - same power and torque figures, but the way the power was delivered was smoother in the Golf)

Both are surprisingly economical for their power, too.

Book figures for skoda are a bit iffy though. As we all know a VW goes faster than a Skoda and a AUDI is even faster because its more expensive.

Also its been shown by quite a few "independent" reviewers that the Fabia does 0-62 in 6.8-9 time which is shockingly the same as a polo gti.

From what I've seen the fabia is the sprinter of the pair and owns 0-70 70-100 is about the same maybe favours the Octi and 100+ its all Octi for straight line speed/acceleration.

Handeling is much more subjective but I'd suspect the Octi wins on suspention setup but lacks the XDS (and I'm not sure it comes with an LSD as standard)

Must rush though. Off to race a Focus ST in a Fabia VRS diesel emoticon-0105-wink.gif

Far to much power in the Fabia, struggles off the line due to wheel spin.

I'm shocked that there is only 117 kg's weight difference

Er, no it doesnt. Launches pretty well form what i`v found.

7 speed box is pretty heavy apparently.

Yeah, from what I understand VW/Audi test with one person and minimal fuel, Skoda test 3-up with some stuff in the boot.

Still, the figures I posted are a comparison between both. So any improvement in one will logically mean an increase in the other :)

No problem :)

Whilst I've not owned either, I've driven both quite a bit.

the fabia only struggles off the loine if it has dunlops fitted ;)

I've left a scottish meet from standstill at lights on a roundabout up to motorway speeds with an octy vRS next to me, and the simple straight line performance is almost exactly the same...

cant really comment on anything else, other than when driving an octy vRS it seems flatter at low revs than the fabia, but better approaching 7k than the fabia (you are best off changing up at 6k in the fabia to be honest)
