high mileage octavias - likely big bills on horizon?

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm looking to get a used Octavia and due to budgetary constraints am looking at some fairly high mileage cars. Can anyone advise likely issues with Diesel Octavias at 100,000 to 150,000 miles (eg is the clutch about to go on the 143,000 mile 10 year old I saw today).

I have owned Skodas before and found them rock solid, but never ones with such star ship mileage.

I have a Passat thats done 137,000 miles.

Issues likely to crop up?

Clutch is the most likely depending on how the car has been driven

Diesel ones? might be worth seeing if it was ever used as a Taxi

It should have some form of service history to check.

As long as it's ben maintained and looked after then starship mileages aren't a problem. Even some lower mileage cars can be plagued with certain issues so don't always judge cars on mileage....

I have an Audi A8 with 174,000 miles on the clock and it drives fine. Needs some attention on a number of wear and tear items but nothing major, the engine and gearbox are all fine and it sailed through the last MOT 7000 miles ago easily.

My Octy's done 132000 and apart from the usual wear an tear items runs fine with no problems

Just pick the right engine, and everything should be good.

The 1.9tdi's have a very good reputation for being able to do high mileage easily. The later 2.0tdi's seem to have a few more reliablilty issues.

As with any diesel, check for regular servicing, and the cambelt/water pump are changed at the correct interval.
