I need to replace the A/C Pump on my 53 TDI. Is it something I can reasonably easily replace or is it something a Garage needs to do.

Im not worried about replacing the Gas as I never use it, but is it a relatively easy thing to do?

Ive bought a Belt to replace also while its off.

Am I correct in assuming I just loosen the Tensioner, and unbolt the Pump?

If you don't use it why replace it?

And refrigerant has to be handled by trained and approved persons.

The reason it needs replacing is that the bearings have gone within the unit and it could break up at anytime therefore it needs replacing.
