Front Parking Sensors &/or Park Assist

Featured Replies

Superb Elegance 140 Hatchback - 2012

Due to buying a "stock" car I couldn't get Front Parking Sensors or Park Assist added to my spec.

Drilling for the sensors doesn't worry me (as an engineer) but wonder about the wiring/control boxes needed. Would also like to have a crack at Park Assist. Has anyone done either of these and can offer some tips, info on where I can get the bits, wiring diagrams or anything useful.

Thanks in anticipation.

park assist would be a massive mission to fit - motors to drive the steering, side sensors, along with front and ECU updates and controllers.

front parking sensors, however, should be easier.

...motors to drive the steering...

Powersteering is already electric. There was a thread in VWNAVI.com where someone tried to retrofit to their MKVI Golf and in the end only needed to replace the ABS controllers (after fitting the front side sensors and a park assist button).

But yeah, 10 sensor kit from ebay that comes with looms and controller would be easiest to have front and rear sensors with OPS.

Hopefully the below will give you some information on where to start. I expect that for Park Assist (the automated parallel park thingy) there would be dependencies, i.e. you'd need the correct version of ABS controllers, gearbox ECU, etc. Actually probably everything on the drivetrain bus would need to be correct version or newer. For the 8 sensor optical park system, the ebay packs are easiest. They include 8 sensors, controller, two buzzers and wiring looms.
