The wifes 1998 Octavia 1 wont show the outside temperature any more and a VCDS scan of the instruments shows a code along the lines of ambient temperature sensor, short to ground.

Does anybody know where the sensor lives so I can investigate it and whether it's a chaffed cable or a faulty sensor.

Also, does anybody happen to know the part number for a new sensor?

It's in the bumper behind the small removable right hand grill as you look at it from the front (near the horn).

Not sure on part no. if you phone your local dealership and give them your reg number they will find it for you.

if its not fitted to the bumper when you remove the grill jamie mentions (it should be) then its propably hanging behind that in the dash void, this can happen if the bumper has ever been removed

Thanks guys, found it - it had come out of it's bracket and was dangling down. I cleaned it and it's wiring connector up, put back in the bracket and it all works fine now.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but does anyone have any pics of where the sensor mounts?

I had the arch liner out of mine today and found the sensor dangling by the horns, but can't see anywhere for it to clip into.

Thanks, but mine is a Mk1, so different to the one in the link.

 

The cable doesn't seem to be long enough for it to reach the front of the bumper and clip in to anything either.
