How have they created the rear legroom in the Superb?

I can understand the seats won't be as confy as those two. However, it seems the differences among superb, passat and BMW 5 aren't so obvious from these photos:

Probably the lumbar support is too much on your superb?

The dimensions also tell similar story:

I believe a lot of the space in the Superb comes from the bonnet being shorter. This is very clear in those 3 pictures posted. You can see the Superb has a shorter front then both the Passat and 5 Series.

The Superb engine is transverse mounted, where I believe (but not 100% sure) that the other 2 have longitudinal mounted engines.

Can anybody else comment on this, has rotating the engine created the space?

These pictures are not to scale - Surely the Superb is longer than Passat in total?   In those pictures, it looked a lot shorter.

Well... 7 years ago, on good old version of Whatcar website.

The Superb has extra length between the A and B pillars giving a bigger door - infact this is one of the key reasons I own a Superb. I'm tall and like a laid back driving position - this usually puts my elbow hitting the B pillar (they seem to be bigger these days!) and me nearly looking out of the back window when turning right driving many er "normal" 5 door cars.

Actually I find the 3 dr Citigo to be good - although I'm not sure I'd want to travel the lenght of France in one!

If you look at the wheelbase dimensions, the images are very clearly not to scale: the scaling makes the Superb's wheelbase look shorter yet it's 5 cm longer in reality.
