Which Oil to use on Fabia MK2 1.9 TDI PD 57 reg

Featured Replies

I know it's a daft question and can find out from my Service Book but I haven't got one with me at the moment and I need to buy some OIL for my Fabia MK2 as the OIL level is at its minimum so needs a TOP UP...Need to know the full type and name pretty please so can buy it on the way home(any recommendations are welcome)

The most important part is the VW Specification.

At a guess I would suggest (correct me if I am wrong) it's 5W40 505.01 as you have a PD diesel engine. Just use a respectable and well known brand.

I heard something about 5W30 Longlife Fully Synthetic...? Does this ring a bell to anyone..?

To my knowledge, Longlife stuff is needed for the variable service versions but can be used in the fixed ones (although don't see the point). Check what the manual says, it should give the VAG spec which most decent oils will quote if they meet.

Asda are doing castrol edge 5w 30 for £35.

Go to your Skoda or VW dealer and ask for 5-40 505.01 Quantum Platignum Gold. It is a fully synthetic oil and cost about £7 plus VAT for 1 litre. You won't get better and it's cheaper than going to halfords and the like. Be careful what oil you use as PD engines are very very touchy about having the right stuff. It buggers up your cams real quick if you use the wrong stuff. Ordinary synthetic doesn't have the right Extreme Pressure agents in that a PD engine needs. Use only the stuff it says in the handbook and you will never have any problems.

Phoned Skoda Dealership in Dartford as my Car was serviced there before and they told me that they only use 5W30 Fully Synthetic one (Castrol or Shell) as 5W40 is for normal (non PD and older TDIs). Went to ASDAs after work and bought 1 ltr for £12.00 so all sorted now, just need to top up tomorrow. Thanks for your help and replies guys. Matty
