Car starts but wont rev!

Featured Replies

Hi I have a skoda fabia comfort 1.4 1v on X reg. One morning after the engine light had been on for a few days which gave the code for faulty EGR valve the car started but would not rev! So I got the EGR valve cleaned etc and there was no change.. Fault codes read again now suggested throttle body was at fault, so had this replaced and still no change! And now all sorts of fault codes are being chucked out..

So I have been advised the ECU is at fault for my problems due to a loss of its settings and reprogramming it may get the car going.. however if this doesnt work I may need a new ECU at a high cost :(

Does this sound familiar to anyone? And are there any other possible causes of my problems?

Cars been off the road for 6 weeks now and possible fixes seem to never work, very disheartening!

Thanks in advance for any replies.

What fault codes do you have now?

Was the throttle body reset when it was replaced, if it's an AUA or AUB has the engine ECU been updated with the latest flash software?

Not too sure as they were wiped due to the car not starting at all at one point! I do know however it chucked out fault codes for EGR, throttle body, crank shaft, and lots of other random things leading to diagnosis of faulty ecu.. The throttle body was adapted when put in without success and no it hasn't had a software update.. Also forgot to mention epc light was on at time where throttle was unresposponsive... Cheers in advance again :)

You needed to replace the EGR valve and clean the throttle body, not the other way round!

This sequence of problems is exactly what happens when the EGR valve fails, replace it and do an ECU reset before adapting the throttle body and then the EGR valve. Ignore all the other codes.

I had a pd tdi that wouldnt rev for about 20seconds when it was cold

Completely puzzled me! Would be nice to find the reason
