This is the alignment report, The bloke looked at it, he was pretty confused. He said everything looks pukka, no obvious signs of damage or anything bent.

Let me know what you think!!

Thanks

the only thing i can think of is its been jacked up on the suspension cup and bent it slighly due to the weight of the car.

Ok thanks mate, fortunately there is a vag specialist nearby, might take it to him to sort. Just dont know where to start really! Im hoping because the beam is obviously bent it will be a less expensive repair job.

obviously NOT bent**** emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

What happens to the angles of the rear wheels if its jacked up so both are off the ground at the same tine at the same height? Is there any play in the rear bearings?

First of all you had no check of caster angles so hard to say what is going on at the front. I think this vehicle was possibly in accident from left side with impact to back wheel as well as front chassis leg. How to fix it???

At this stage rear axle is beyond repairable. Easy-shims wont help as they dont have that much adjustment. Not only camber is to much negetive but also toe is waaaaaaayyyyyy out. Unfortunetly you need to swap rear beam.

Front can be "possibly" adjusted by loosing bolt for subframe and shifting it to left and aligning it to even side for camber and caster. Very big chance its doable - to bad there is no caster reading.

Either way you need to do something with rear beam. I really wonder what happenend to the car that is soooooo much out in a back. That is way to much.

BTW. That damage wouldnt be done by jacking under beam as then it would effect both sides. Problem here is only on left side.

On other hand it could be hit from a back and front by coincidence is just out of spec. Front shouldnt be your concern at all. Despite there is no adjustment there are ways to make it right.

Could the front end just be out because i had it lowered and then put back onto standard springs? I never got the alignment check after doing this.

Mattie, il have a look at that next time i get it raised, i can only think i wont get any give in it though. I think im going to have to take this to the specialist place in town and get them to quote me up. Iv got no idea how much a beam would cost.

I dont know if VRS has the same as standard but rear beam on ebay are up to £100. To swap it you might find a garage that will do it for another £100 maybe less. You just need to find a right one which guys here will know the best. I m sure they might even give you alternetive from other VAG car.

Ok thanks mate. So in your opinion the rear beam is deffo knackered? Any other possibilities or is it guna be the beam?

Total toe is pointing out that rear beam is no good. Easy-shims wont help. You need beam based on those readings and going back to what you described I would be saying you need a beam. Cant say Im 100% as you can appricate as we do it over internet so I dont have a chance to properly diagnose it by looking underneath but if body aint damaged then by changing beam to a deacent one you should resolve your handling and tyre wear problem.

To bad you that far from Leeds as I would check it for free. But I understand its a long drive....

Yeah no probs, always good having an opinion, its helpful. Thanks for your advice mate. Will look into a new beam.

Its the thought that counts, long drive to leeds. Thanks very much.

Just sent you PM.

  • 1 year later...

I know this is from last year but did you get the car sorted and tracked after the new beam? I've just had my vrs tracked up today and the rear beam is bent a little bit on the passenger side camber -0.38 and toe -0.50

The driver side camber -1.18 toe 0.21 which I got told is fine. Normal for a lowered vag car.

Also are all the rear beams the same I.E drum axle just swap everything over from mine?

Thanks Ant

Anybody???
