fault code reader

Featured Replies

I have borrowed a mates fault code reader from work and plugged it in only to get a link error.

The code reader is a AUTEL VAG MAXSCAN VAG405

The plug supplied fits the socket 16 pin and the unit is for vw, audi, obd1 and obd2 etc

can anyone tell me if this is actually compatible or what type of code reader do i need with which connector for fabia 1,4 mpi 8v 2000-2001 model

any help much appreciated

ps trying to see if any fault codes exist for a random power steering light that i occasionally get.

I think I have the same model scanner and not had a problem with it, are you turning the ignition on after plugging it in ?

Random PAS light.......first check for hairline cracks in the metal strip fues in the top part of the battery holder........then make sure that the battery that you have is at least a 60ah size which it needs........then check if you have the newer PAS sensor.....look through drivers side of wheel arch near ARB and if there is a black plastic box (small) on the side of the steering colunm with a single black cable coming out you have the old (faulty) style....if it is a goldy/metal type that is the newer modified type......plenty of stuff on this site re the fault as common..... Hi

I gave up with this fault code reader and used another one my mate had vcds? it came back with the following codes

3 Faults Found:

00566 - Steering Assistance Operation

27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

01288 - Terminal 30; Steering Assist

07-10 - Signal too Low - Intermittent

00816 - Power Steering Sensor (G250)

37-10 - Faulty - Intermittent

I have already looked at the steering angle sensor when i looked at it , it was metal and when removed it had a white inner plastic circuit board

I have also looked at fuses- all ok

I have checked battery and alternator all charging ok

I have added extra earths all over the place in case it was that

i have checked oil level on reservoir and all connections on pump

from the codes i have, would anyone say it was the steering angle sensor or the pump?

if it is the angle sensor is it just fit or does it need calibrating in any way?

any help much appreciated- i can fix it myself but just need to know which bit to fix!!!!!!!

this car is not going to beet me

Replace sensor first and hope it's not the pump.

Diagnosis isn't just about the codes, look in the measuring blocks to check if the angular velocity of the steering wheel is comparable to how fast you are turning it, if not I would suspect the sensor.
