A quick hello in a section I will be using most!

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

Just agreed to buy a members car at the weekend, an Octavia vRS II.

Thought I'd pop a quick hello here as I'm a bit of a car cleaning geek, so will be looking at this part of the forum a lot, trying to help out and recieving a few tips. I started on Das 6 with menzerna pads and polish, moved onto Sim 180 rotary but stick with menzerna polishes and scholl concepts with various makes of pads. I'm no pro by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm a keen ameteur and do it for a little extra cash for very selected clients (friends who don't want to pay a lot)

Here are a few cars I've done, my mates evo Via DAS 6

My MX5, DAS 6

My A3, Das 6

And a neighbours Volvo Via rotary and Menz Power Finish

Anyway, will be doing my vRS when I get it, so will be posting a little write up on how I get on with it.

Looking forward to joining in the conversation!

Kind regards,

Neil

Welcome fella. From looking at the images you have posted I think you will be the one being asked for tips! Nice looking finishes on those cars

Nice red paint correction. Always nice to do red (see 50/50 below) :D I am in a similar boat. Own a lot of gear and do good value cleans for people should they wish.

Thanks for the welcome! Always nice to hear everyone's experiences. That's a lovely 50/50. Always great to bring a car back from the dead. The white evo was similar. Totally matt finish on it. My mate collected it in the dark and nipped to Tesco on the way home. When he saw it under the lights it blew him away, and when he came back to his car after doing some shopping there were 3 people stood around his car. He's just bought a black Leon cupra that I'm doing on the 30th. Can't wait to get to grips with it!

Excellent results looking forward to seeing some more on the Octy

Welcome to the forum and this specific area, looks like a nice day and finish on the MX-5...........

Thanks again Guys, Yeah was a lovely day, it was my first ever attempt with my DA, you can see a bit of polish residue between the rear light cluster and the panel that I missed! Had a little play with my DA the other day giving a mate at work a bit of a machine polishing tutorial, forgot how much longer it takes the polish to break down with one compared to rotary.

Have read a few of your write up's on DW Baker21, you're pretty handy with a rotary! I got my sim180 after seeing the work you'd done with yours! You're superb is nice too!

Thanks and indeed the DA is a different beast to the rotary but does have it's place, mainly use it for applying glazes and waxes at the moment.......

Glad my threads have been some use to you and my SIM 180 has now moved onto another forum member, it's a good entry level machine but the speed controller and motor on the Makita is in a different league, trouble is now I want to move to a Flex or Festool as the Makita is such a heavy animal to hold all day......... :(

Must admit, do fancy the variable speed trigger on the festool. But its an expensive bit of kit for the enthusiast like me. The sim 180 gets me through what I want to achieve. Probably will pick up a mikata if I see one at the right price mind. I count myself as a strong lad, but it is a heavy piece of machinery for sure.
