Service advice on 1.9 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi,

I got a Octvia Estate Classic 1.9 TDI which is due its MOT next week. It an '08 plate, 4yrs old in April and has just over 41,000 on the clock. I ran up the main dealer and they were saying what I expected i.e toothbelt & water pump change is necessary due to its age. I then rang an independent that I used before on me old Fabia and they are saying go for a regular service for now as its still under 4yrs (just about). I think the official advice is to replace the toothbelt after 4yrs or at 80,000 but I am wondering how strict these rules are and if I can run it for a few more months before have to pay out the $?

thanks in advance for any advice

Guidelines rather than rules mate...the 4 year thing has appeared relatively recently, but they obviously reached that figure based on something happening. Rubber will obviously degrade with age, increasing the risks of failure.

I know lots of people who have gone way past that age without problems, but on the flipside, I know people who have rigidly stuck to the recommended intervals and had cambelts fail.

Personal opinion....get it done as soon as you can afford it but would think you'll be fine for a bit.
