intercolers? petrol and diesel?

Featured Replies

hey all. looking at getting a front mount but dont want to spend the full hog, so been looking at universal and i got a guy from longlife exhausts who does intercooler pipe work so all in it will cost me around £200-250. so to my title is there a diffrence between petrol and diesel intercoolers?

cheers, joe.

Look in group buy, intercooler and pipework 200 delivered

The turbocharger on a diesel runs at a much higher static pressure than a petrol engine so the intercooler needs to be capable of holding more pressure on a diesel, generally they are made with thicker cores and stronger end tanks on oem equipment, but most aftermarket jobbies are more than up to the job tbh.

As Tom mentioned really.

Diesels typically run higher boost. In the interests of longevity, it's better to have a fully welded, aluminium intercooler than not. If you're increasing the boost anywhere near 2bar it's wise to fit a stronger intercooler first.

For the Fabia VRS...

Stock boost - 1.3bar.

remapped - typically 1.6 bar

hybrid turbo - 1.8 to 2.0bar+ depending on supporting mods and map.

Also Ibiza Cupra TDI 160 - 1.65bar.
