Oil level

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Jumped into the vrs yesterday's and and the oil started flashing so jumped out and checked the level and it seemed low which is strange since I have only done 3000 miles since a service. Anyway after topping up and checking the level I am still getting the oil warning on the dash. Should this reset itself or auto detect the new level?

Thanks in advance

Which oil warning did you get on the dashboard?

A red oil light means low oil pressure and is a serious concern.

The words "oil" written on the LCD display is the oil service reminder, this is a counter that activates after a certain number of miles since the last reset. The counter should be reset whenever the car is serviced, but may not have been done.

Cheers for the reply. Yeah should have been more clear. It is not the warning light, it is the LCD oil warning. Will have to double check that they did change the oil when it was serviced.

Thanks for the reply.

The counter is not reset by changing the oil, but by the engineer connecting the car to a computer. Chances are your service engineer just forgot to reset the counter.

Ok, don't suppose they is anyway I can reset it without taking into a dealer?

Yep it's in the manual, though bear in mind it will remind you again 3000 miles after you should be getting it replaced.

Better option is to find someone with VCDS. Then you can get the interval increased by just 7000 miles so you don't go part your next due oil change. If you're in Nottingham or Derby, I can do it, if not there's a list and a map somewhere in the Diagnostics and VCDS section.

thanks very much for the guys.

I will have a look at the manual and reset it for now and then maybe look for someone with VCDS.

thanks
