fmic

Featured Replies

Am i right in thinking that the fmic is meant to replace the smic.

If so is it possible to run both together and has anyone tried it?

Yep it's meant to replace the smic, I've also thought about if it be possible to run both too, only complications would be the piping etc and I'm sure so sort of lag would be introduced having to go through both coolers.

Maketh no sense.

Not if it's not needed but the idea does. VAG fit twin intercoolers to a lot of their cars.

Not tried it. In theory one can do so and then not have to worry about the MAP sensor or intercooler pipework up to the inlet manifold or EGR.

However: Most fitting FMICs will be on an upgrade path to hybrid turbos or beyond. The OEM SMIC isn't designed to manage that amount of boost (2.0bar or 2.0+!)

You've also got at least two of the OEM intercooler pipe connectors left - to and from the SMIC. These have been known to pop off even on standard cars.

You've also got to route any pipework whilst maintaining airflow to/from the SMIC.

IMO it's not impossible, and for those on a budget, it's a place to start, one £55 intercooler and some pipework later and you're there, pretty much, apart from the 5 or so alloy or silicone bends that may also be needed.

EDIT: Having looked at the piccies in the intercooler group buy this seems less of a prospect than I first thought. Not only is there very little space for the pipes to pass each other. The pipes coming from the front mount would have to do an S bend to get to the intercooler connection on the SMIC. In doing that the pipes get in the way of the SMIC. Best forget about it as a mad idea...

Instead of a smic and a fmic. Has anyone tried mounting two smic's at the front or even just one big one from the 2.0tdi octavia. Both would come in cheaper than the main options people go for.
