I'm usually on the Octavia section but sometimes here as my wife has a Furby 1.9 SDi. X reg 2001

Car is currently at the garage after failing MOT on split CV gators, both inner and outer. The outer has been replaced OK.

Inner on is a problem - part supplied from factors yesterday was too small to fit. Part supplied today was too big! Any ideas? The garage is stumped at the moment.

As the inner was too small the agent suggested trying one from a mk3 Golf as sometimes these fit - but this was about 1" too big. Any suggestions most welcome to help garage resolve this. He's taken a photo of the gator and sent it to the supplier to ID hopefully.

Thanks. Yes, he has tried the main dealers. He's an indy VW/Audi/Skoda specialist but even he's a bit stumped! It just seems non standard or that it's such an early Fab that they fitted non standard driveshafts to it.

Also to compound troubles - since Jan this year a split inner CV boot is a fail. It never used to be hence there are now a lack of stock items around that he can try.

Bugger!!....hope it gets fixed......it should be the same as a Polo or Ibiza around the same time or later as they used similar components?????......

Just had a call from the garage.

Correct part at last! Turned out to be a 95mm flange on the output shafts from the gear box. This is the same size as fitted to a Mk4 Golf TDi. He's never come across this before.

95mm ??? That is an odd size indeed. It used to be only the automatic models which had a tripod inner joint that had those fitted, the vast majority of the diesels have a 100mm inner cv joint.
