Good luck Subaru

Featured Replies

Price has just been released - £22k for a 1.6 4x4 version.

Seems very steep especially given that it is a higher Impreza. Have to say that the Mitsubishi ASX and Nissan Qashqai are better value, but they don't do a small petrol 4x4.

Perhaps direct competitor is the Mini Countryman? In which case the Mini seems to be priced more competitively.

Looks better than the Mitsubishi though! :)

Undecided on its looks thh, however it will be a decent 4x4. I'd consider this over any Mitsubishi,Hyundai, Nissan, Kia and Mini (perhaps not the new Mazda) in a heatbeat. The Boxer engine will be bullet proof and the 4x4 system will be very good coupled with the best/most knowledgeable dealers and Technicians I have had experience of, its a definite  from me.

Isn't a non turbo 1.6 petrol 4x4 with 114 bhp going to be a bit gutless....even going to Tescos.:wonder:

Subaru prices are a tad on the high side. To replace mine like for like (although the current one is better and quicker?) would now cost £34,000!!

I saw these prices earlier today and nearly fell of my chair when I saw the top range one will be just under £30,000!!!!!!!!!! Hardi har har! And with THAT interior?!?! hehehe I find it looks ok outside - far better than the ASX. But inside it is as dire as ever.

The Boxer engine will be bullet proof

But thirsty - they just are.

So, to replace the Scooby was £34k; and that would give me a petrol car yielding about 18mpg the way I drive. I now have a diesel Yeti I can use every day... 45.3mpg since I got it.

But thirsty - they just are.

What one?

The diesel in the Forrester will return nearly 50mpg according to Honest John!!!

In real life though I know 2 owners that are getting 40+mpg with ease. one on the impreza diesel the other a Forrester .

Thirsty they are not.

Just realised what the XV reminds me of:

Also, there are 2 XV Petrol for sale on autotrader.....for £26,295 :o

What like the one in the MY08-on STI that is popping piston no.4 all over the place? My mate (engineer) has had SEVEN 2.5 blocks in the last 6 months as gifts from just the ONE local Subaru dealer - warranty engines come in a crate you see...... but that's unfair - the n/a versions are usually pretty solid, if a bit thirsty!

IMO that Scooby looks pretty much exactly like someone has facelifted this:

So they have been putting an engine in every 26 days and it also takes them 4/5 to change them over.

Don't think the engine is the problem .

No they've been getting the blocks from various dealers for him as they use the undamaged ones to build race engines (but all from down south)....I didn't express myself very well.

I don't know why it would take 4-5 days...I've "helped" (making tea and helping lift heavy things) said friend do an engine swap on a classic shape WRX in his drive - took us a day and a half?

The problem with piston no.4 is well documented. (new shape)

Thankfully it appears to be mostly MY08 STIs that suffer - and apparently Subaru have sorted it now. I'm not an engineer so I don't know exactly what the problem is/was, I ran a hawkeye

for a year and ragged it like nothing without a single hiccup. But by all accounts scoobies aren't quite the bombproof motor they used to be.

Sorry if I offended anyone, that wasn't my intention...

I have a friend up north with a MY08 that just popped piston no.4 on a track day (approved used still under the 1 year used warranty). His dealer have been very good about it and are replacing the engine under warranty, and giving him three years / 60k miles warranty on the replacement - so props to Subaru for their customer service. They did recommend he pay £590.- for a set of Cosworth drop-in pistons to go straight in the new engine to "help avoid future problems", so either they're trying to make at least a little bit of money out of it or they are aware that there is still an issue there.

Ironically, engine no.8 came in (in bits) today while I was at his having a cuppa, lol. This one is off a standard 2010 STI with 48,000 miles on it, piston no.1 this time.

Took a nice chunk out, but he reckons he might be able to salvage it.

The fancy STI nitride crank has had it though...

Surprising how much sealant gunk Subaru use on an engine, they really cake it in there.

I'm sure some decent engines must come out of the factory, but it's a simple fact that they have been going pop in disproportionate numbers.
