quality will be affected for sure,im afraid.

That may well not be so. Chinese production has advanced and is advancing. They are capable of the highest standards in some fields-Apple products are of very high quality and are Chinese made. Modern car manufacturing plants are capable of consistent quality wherever they are sited and if Skoda take with them the quality control and production values which they have established they will be fine. The Chinese market is expanding and will be a vital part of every group's future.

Those who don't understand the development of the Chinese should learn mandarin so they can look for work in the future.

In 1984 VW group setup his first joint venture in Shanghai, now VW have two joint groups and over 10 factories in China.Last year alone, over 2 million vehicles ,including Audi, Volkswagen and Skoda's mainstream models have been made in these plants. My polo is one product of Shanghai VW in 2004, until now its quality is satisfactory.Tiguan has been intrduted in 2010 in Shanghai VW, and sold over 100,000 units in last year, but I prefer the Yeti and have to wait for more time.

Great, its about time that child labor be used to make our cars. emoticon-0106-crying.gif Besides, a little lead paint isn't so bad.

I'm afraid that attitude is about as out of date as it is prejudiced.

Cynical perhaps, prejudiced no. I love all my Apple/Mac products and I may well continue with Skoda/Yeti even after they join the fray of the worldwide domination of the industrial giant. However, when your job gets farmed out, then maybe you too will ‘think differently’. That said, I’m sorry if you were offended.

Not offended so much as surprised at the sentiment. In the UK many people have lost their traditional employment and it is a sad and bitter thing for those who gave years of honest labour. With hindsight the trends which lay behind these things were there to be seen and the people managing/controlling the businesses failed to react appropriately. The workforce were not paid to forward plan but to do their daily tasks and were let down. Mining and shipbuilding mass market electrical appliances and computers are all sorry examples.

To blame the foreigner is just unfair. In the US your vehicle manufacturers persisted with an annual model change from one large and inefficient beast to another and have all had to face competition from smaller better made and more efficient machines-why was it Toyota who produced such a change and not GM Ford or Chrysler?

Europe has and is undergoing similar changes so it is a developed world problem.

Skoda makes the car which best suits my tastes and needs-a British built Land Rover Freelander (Indian owned though) could fit the bill but to a similar specification would have cost me thousands more. "Go figure" as I think you guys say!

You’re soOoo correct in that America makes horrible cars and we have done so for a long time. Our last decent cars where from the seventies. Too many changes every year, poor build quality, labor union entitlements and ugly-ass designs. China manipulates their currency and has one of the lowest labor rates in the world. There really isn’t much we can do at this point and I haven’t purchased an American made car since 2004. It was a complete rattletrap after only weeks of driving.

To make things worst we have Obama who couldn’t manage a phone booth with a handful of coins! Hopefully, we’ll un-ass that fool in November, cut our corporate tax rate to at least equal of the rest of the world (25% vs. 35%) and get out of the government owned car business.

I’ll likely remain as a VW buyer unless they start cutting corners like we did. I already noticed the new Passat (now made here) is much leaner on features than in previous years’. BTW: I feel that if the Yeti was sold here in its current design, it would sell like hotcakes (another American saying) and I'd buy one.

The cars produced in China will be for the Asian/ Chinese market. They have been making the Octavia MK2 and Superb MK2 in China for quiet sometime already, but they are not shipped to the EU.

Lets not forget the Superb MK1 was based on the chinese LWB version of the VW Passat.

Soon after the VW Group Rus had started production of the VW Polo Sedan in Kaluga it was discovered that this model has some parts of Chinese origin, including not only glass, but also such important ones as electric power steering. Actually, the latter had a software bug and that was the reason why its Chinese origin quickly became widely known. But all in all Russian Polo proved to be very reliable in its class. I wouldn't be surprised if I find out that my (and all the rest btw) Yeti has some Chinese parts too.
