RA2 false alerts

Featured Replies

Picked up an RA2 last night from Halfrauds so I could take advantage of the special offer before they changed their minds

I do have a question though... Blackspot make a big deal out of the fact that there are no false alerts from the RA2, but I got one this morning. How do I know it was false? I was in a multistorey carpark, reversing into a space!

Now, whilst I find it fairly amusing to have Tiff Needell shouting "Laser! Laser! Check Speed!!" at me while doing 1mph backwards (indoors), it doesn't inspire confidence in the unit to warn me of genuine lasers.

Anyone else had an RA2 do this?

While I'm here, I also have a question about the fixed camera warnings. I was under the impression that it would warn me of cameras with some kind of consideration to speed, but that doesn't seem to be the case. On my journey to work there are several cameras on the A2 & A102M approach to the Blackwall Tunnel, but for most of the journey I am sitting in stop-start traffic. I still get the beeps & warnings, even if I'm doing just 5 mph as I approach the cameras, or even at a standstill just before it. Quite annoying, I'm sure you'll agree!

Not an answer but maybe some info (If you don't already know) about how it works.

Detectors rely on Laser diffusion to notify you.

When a Rozzer zaps your motor he will almost certainly be aiming at your number plate, the detector is invariably on your dash and really you wanna be getting a bit more notice than that so it recieves the radiated laser transmission that has bounced around a bit out side. You may well have picked something odd up. Keep an eye on it and take it back if your nat happy.

I have turned the beeps down on mine and got rid of voice alerts.

The red flashing panel and led is enough to get my attention.

I cant fault it though as it seems to pick up everything and i've had no false alerts yet. Didnt pick up a mobile rolling camera van on the M5 though - perhaps this is asking too much (not sure what type of cameras they have inside or how their detection works)

The alerts can be annoying but the value of being forewarned definitely makes up for this.

Mobile Rolling Camera Van!!!

Not heard of those - Whatever next. :finger:

Have you deselected Blackspots or Schools?

yep.

joined M5 just in front of me around junction 6 heading south as i was on my way to Cheltenham races a couple of weeks ago.

"high top' white transit van totally unmarked with two tinted windows above the rear doors. you could just make out the equipment behind the glass/perspex.

van proceeded to sit in middle lane at bang on 70. i sat behind it by about three car lengths. approaching cars behind me seemed to spot it and slowed down. mwy was quiet and i didnt see any action. it did look a bit suspicious

pulled off onto one of those "police vehicles only" humps after a couple of miles.

I've seen those type of vans parked up taking in the scenery but never on the move.

Think they're looking for tax dogers.

I`ve turned of blackspots and schools, turned off the voice alert and just have the beeps set at 500m notice. Can handle the odd false alert (not actually false alerts its just the RA2 sometimes isnt 100% sure which road i`m on) when it thinks i`m on a road parralell to the one I`m on. I cant fault it and it makes motorway driving so much less stressfull

I've turned the volume down a bit, but it's still annyoning... Think I may take a leaf out of FabiaTDi's book & turn them almost right off. The flashing is definitely enough to grab my attention.
