First Service costs on Variable Servicing

Recommended Posts

They are £20 out on the minor service, although that reduces to only a fiver with their 10% Briskoda offer.

£129 on Skoda's National Pricing policy, you should never pay more than this for a minor variable or fixed service...

no it isn't. That 3 to 10 years old and a from price. Ie £129 will be a 10k service on a 10year old mpi engine using glorified mineral oil.

Trust and faintree are by far the cheapest service costs I have seen on this forum.

My boss just had his 12 month old Greenline serviced (fixed) for £129.00 (DM Keith)

My TDi vRS is booked in on Thursday at Pulman for £129.00 (variable).

Both on longlife oil.

Mention Skoda's National Pricing and away you go.

Having read through this thread, I thought I would approach my local VAG "indie" Volksworld, who specialises in Audi, VW and Skoda servicing and repairs. Their written recommendation to me was that while they are able to perform warranty servicing, I should use the main franchise dealer for servicing for the duration of the vehicle's warranty, in order to remove any chance of the dealer trying to wriggle out of a warranty claim if something was to go wrong.

Once my warranty had expired, they could offer an equivalent or better service at a more competititve price.

Is a stamp from the dealer really that valuable? Surely a full service history is not that much worse that a full skoda service history?

In my experience i find that some independent garages do more work during a service than the dealers in any case.

I have a local independent that has worked on my cars for the past 9 years. His labour charge is £60 for a major service. The Parts on top of course but i have never paid more than £120 for a full service which has included Oil, filter, air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter, Fluids, all brakes disassembled and cleaned, engine flush, doors and bonnet/boot catch regreased, squeeky brake pads resurfaced if required. He is VAT registered and completes the work in a day.

With regards to oil changes, why not get your oil changed at National Tyres and Autocare? Full oil change and filter for my 2006 Octavia 2.0TDi PD DSG L&K is £38.70 using Castrol Edge 5W30. Thats about £3 more than i can buy the oil alone. They even sell the oil for less than i can buy it anywhere else.

On the other hand, both my brother and dad have NEVER serviced their cars, EVER. Both drive Nissans, both petrols, both 11/12 years old. Never had an oil change, never had filters, plugs, or anything - pass their MOTs every year. Dad does 5000 miles a year, brother does 15000 miles a year. They dont even top up their oils. Brother had a Toyota Carina before then, M reg. Had it for 7 years with no servicing at all - still went with a hitch.

There is one benefit that I have noticed.

My two Octavia's are now both out of warranty but both have required remedial work.

The first question Skoda UK ask when considering gestures of goodwill is whether the cars have full main dealer service history.

Because of this I have had around £2,000 of work done on my cars all paid for by Skoda UK outside of the warranty period.

When you consider that stamp can cost as little as £129 ( compared to £100 - £120 from an independant?) then it really (for me at least) is worth it.

One of the guys on the phone at Skoda did say though that at 5 years old they are much less likely to contribute so the service I had done at Skoda last week may well be my last. I'll either be doing it myself or taking it to a local independent and providing them with the oil and filter and paying them their £40/hour labor rate for them to get their hands dirty, use their ramp and for them to dispose of the old oil instead of me having to take it to the local tip.

My car was registered in Sept 06 and had 5 services, the one before last I used an independent as the dealer was nowhere near on the belt and pump , but went to dealer again last year after the independent k n a c k e r e d my adjustment bolts on my headlights. I am glad I did go back as the dealer and skoda both gave me goodwill to fix my aircon, ( a new compressor ) the part alone was £549, but I paid £ 449 including air con service
