First Service costs on Variable Servicing

Featured Replies

I'm sorry but £216 is ridiculous!!

Yes - it is, you're right.

However its the price you pay if you want a full Skoda Service History.

Personally I do. I will shop around but at the end of the day I want a book of Skoda stamps, not Fred Smith's dodgy car emporium.

  • Yep fixed is fixed - 9320 miles (15000Km) or 1 year whichever comes first.

No it isn't as i and many other have paid £120 or less for a Skoda dealer service.

+1 just gotta shop around. As stated in my earlier post the price varied from £110-£220 at different main dealers (longlife service).

Even if you get a good 1st offer, always ask if thats their best price, you nearly always get a further discount :)

I was quoted £303 for a 1st variable by Colborne in Woking on my VRS last autumn (2011). I guess that's why I ended up reasonably happy paying £195 in Fareham.

It is a total rip off, but until everyone shops around and votes with their feet it will continue. I reckon most people with cars they've bought from new just go back to the place they bought from by default.

Going to the Skoda main dealer does probably stand you in good stead for any "good will" post warranty contributions from Skoda UK, but judging by the Teves ABS thing they aren't the best at that anyway.

Garages are on their knees, I know of a one near me, RAC approved ,who on Monday serviced no cars and no mot, (1st time it has happened to him in 14 years!)he fits genuine parts, so he is not going to charge silly prices, Dm Keith in Bradford have a price match, so find a price and get them to match it, jct 600 the vw dealer is usually cheaper, especially for parts so I ask them to match my cheapest price, if you do not ask you will pay full price

and sdwilliams I am confused, you say it was £96 , then pay £218.05 :wonder:

£96 is the labour

The parts make up the rest.

Company car so I dont pay it, i get told where to use

TWO HOURS to drop oil, change the filter, refill and change the air filter  were they using a pipette to refill :giggle: takes me , a chef not a mechanic half an hour and I haven't a ramp

and yours is a TSI so do not have to bend down to do oil filter, and the air filter on those is a doddle compared to the TFSI the cover is a right pain to get off, my dealer broke mine, so I do myself now

Lol, i'm not justifying it. But car becomes mine after 3 years so dealer stamps mean a lot.

My first variable service was done last December and cost £301. But then Tunbridge Wells is a rip-off part of the country what with all those bankers living there. Not that many bankers drive Skodas, except those who wish to be seen as ironic.

Some of these prices that you have paid is laughable to be honest!

I recommend that you read your car's Service Schedule (service record book) to see what is actually involved.

Glad I wangled two years free servicing on mine then...but I did suffer a forked up deal which is why.

Talk to them...

As I have already said, I intend to

I recommend that you read your car's Service Schedule (service record book) to see what is actually involved.

Inspection service

oil change + filter

Tyres checked (depth/pressure)

Battery inspected

Plenum chamber inspected and cleaned if necessary

resett service indicator

check air filter and pollen fiter

Underbody inspection for sealant/paint damage

fault memory of all systems of self diagnosis interrogated

yes right still not even 3 quarters of an hour , my pollen filter was black and date stamped 2008 every fly wasp and mashed up dried leaf in yorkshire in it. Took me longer to type than to do, or not do, just some ticks in a book.

everything apart from battery check and plug in is covered in engine oil change service. Free check so why are they charging well over double, even mobil 1 is only £50 :dull:

£200 from blades skoda in bristol for 18,000 mile variable service. Felt it was expensive, although they were friendly, did wash and valet the car and I got a courtesy car.

The company I work for wont use main dealers, they buy their company cars and get them serviced by independent garages using Skoda parts. Dont know what they are going to charge for the three Octavia TSI cars they have just purchased. Guess we will find out in a few months...

Just paid £302 for my first variable service today at DM Keith York.

Yes but that included a cup of instant coffee :giggle:

Looks like I'll be going to Benfield Harrogate then :wonder:

Scary numbers being thrown about on here - have people forgetten how to SHOP AROUND!!!???

I don't agree with Skoda saying brand new engines don't need running in oil changes so I'll be changing mine around 3-4,000 miles - it's done 1800 so far in less than 3 weeks.

Using my dealer I will NOT be paying more than £130! There are plenty of dealers out there and I'll be asking for quotes at the end of the month.

Failing that I'll do it myself, but if the dealer offers me value for money they'll have my repeat business...
