What's the best one to get and where from? Also is it compatible with Windows 7? Been tempted for a while to buy a small laptop and get it so I can have a fiddle. Also a few of my mates have VAG's now so will come in handy

HEX+CAN is the most versatile for both CANBUS (MKII Octavia, MK5 Golf etc) and non CANBUS (MKI Octavia, Fabia & MK4 Golf etc) VAG vehicles

Are updates free?

Yes, once you have the pukka jobbie, all updates are free, Ross-Tech notify you (when you open VCDS) of any updates available (this notification can be turned off, not sure why you would want to, but it can)

Cool. Think I'll be buying a new laptop soon so this would be good too have too. No doubt you'll see a thread on that soon too

NHN on the MK5 Golf Gti forum (and here) is possibly going to run a group buy on them - might be worth looking into to save a few quid?
