Octy II VRS TFSi Home Servicing Advice

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

I've tried looking in the guides section but I cant seem to find a thread covering this so I thought I'd start one! Hopefully everyone can put it to use.

Well I've had my VRS for about 6 months now and the service indicator has just flashed up.

I'm the kinda guy to get big jobs done by the garage like cambelt etc. But I dont see the point in shelling out money for someone to service the car when I can do it myself!

I dont intend on selling the car for many years to come by which point will be worthless trade in wise anyway!

So any tips guys?

I'm familiar with changing oil on my previous mk2 golf so it should be straight forward enough I hope.

It's a 56 plate so I'm not sure what's due. It's very recently had a cambelt, auxillary belt, water pump and coolant flush done on it.

I'm thinking of using 502 grade oil as I'm not keen on leaving it churn the long life stuff for too long.

Also do I need to change any other filters on there? I'm thinking pollen filter and fuel filter but I dont know where they're located or how to change them.

Dont worry about air filter I intend on getting an intake soon.

Any help or guides very much appreciated!

Regards

Rich

If you are thinking of doing filters and oil etc, get from Eurocarparts ( a sponser on here) enter BRISK25 for25% off. Pollen filter is located below the glovebox . push passenger seat all the way back, put your head under the glovebox you will see a plastic button /tab twist off and pull the rubber/vinyl flap down . This reveals the pollen filter housing . I use a maglight torch to see better , slide to the right the bottom base cover, then pull down the old filter, noting which way it goes in/out. get a hose attatchment and vac all the leaves and flies out of the housing and your carpets. Refitt in reverse order. The filter from eurocarparts has an Ikea style, location on a piece of paper with the filter anyway

Thanks for that Blue! I'll get to ordering it. Not sure if ECP sell genuine Oil Filters, not a big an of the guff FRAM stuff.

Not a Fram oil filter fan the rest of them seem ok, i'm a MAAN filter person if i can.

The pollen filter is under the glovebox, pop your head under you will see a cover its under there cant mind if its left or right to take the cover off :giggle:

Airfilter is in the plastic engine cover and personally a totally stupid design.

What miles is on the car?

Get an oil filter housing removal socket if you haven't got one.

cool thanks guys. Very useful. I already have a oil filter removal tool amongst my tool kit so that's cool. I'm thinking of getting a set of iridium spark plugs too as the car is remapped.

The car's done 27k, so not a lot I know, but I'd like to give the car a full service. Any need to do the fuel filter?

The iridiums are a good way to go and will make the engine run smoother. I changed the fuel filter as I think they should be changed every 20,000 miles for the small cost they are.

If you do most things yourself like me. Then an idea would be to buy the MK5 Golf haynes manual, as the engines are the same and all the information is in there

Only negative I can see with this approach is the stamps in your service history, for someone buying your car.

But if you plan to keep it for a long while then emoticon-0148-yes.gif

That's the thing, I dont intend on selling the car for a Long long time, by which point it isn't going to be worth much anyway, I dont see the need to waste cash on a stamp for a glorified oil change.

And thanks for the tip on the mk5 golf manual I'll get digging and collating a shopping list.

But yeah I'm a fan of doing the work myself, even if it takes longer I know how it's been done. Where is the fuel filter Matt?

I take the same approach, pay for major jobs like cambelt replacement (had mine done at Skoda last Friday) and do the rest myself.

My car is on 55k miles, going to replace the oil, all filters and spark plugs once the weather warms up.

The stamps in the service history don't mean much once the car is over 4 years old, plenty of receipts for parts will be sufficient.

Just looking on EuroCarParts and there seems to be 2 different types of oil filter listed for the skoda 2.0 engine. Am I right in assuming I require the filter insert type? The other Mann filter looks like a more traditional metal encased unit and is listed for engine code "CCZA."They're both completely different items and different dimensions so I dont want to get the wrong thing!

Any help appreciated thanks guys.

yeh you need the cartridge type filter mate.

Another question, what size air filter should I be looking at? 343mm x 136mm width length vs 405mm length x 173mm width! Basically a flat or taller chunky air filter. I didn't realise it was such a pain to find parts for the car

OEM vag part number is 06F133843A

Serviced my 2007 VRS 2.0 TFSI yesterday, it was quite simple once I'd found the correct tool to remove the oil filter!
