Reverse Sensor Delay

Featured Replies

I have recently fitted a Columbus radio to my Superb and have noticed that the reverse sensors are disabled until the system finishes booting. Is this normal? When fitted with the Bolero it was immediate.

Next time you park it, switch off the Columbus before the ignition. Now see if you get instant reverse sensing. Mine always work immediately, but I don't leave the Columbus on. I can't see how they're connected, but try it.

Thanks Ray, have you encountered the same issue if you leave it on?

No, I can't confirm that because I'm "old school" and simply don't leave it on! There's no technical reason for that, it's just that I never know what mood I'll be in when I get in the car and I don't want some cheerful person blaring at me as soon as I switch on. :)

Next time, I'll try it and report back.

Ray - must be old school too as I've started to switch off the columbus as well. Sometimes I just listen to the silence in the car...as to sensor delay, I haven't noticed any with Columbus on or off.

Just been out in the car and 'yes' I have a slight delay as the Columbus unit fires up before the sensors come on, if the columbus is left on. When off the sensors come up immediately.

Hadn't noticed before...but not really an issue. By the time I've settled into the cockpit and adjusted the goggles the Columbus has fired up. :o

OK, I tried it - no delay at all. As soon as the engine fires I put it into reverse and the parking sensors are immediately active. Have you got a CD/DVD/SD Card in the slot(s) which are being read and slowing everything down?

No but it might have something to do with the 128 gig harddrive that we put in it. Being an SSD HD I didn't hink it would as they are very fast and there is absolutely no delay on selection of folders etc.

SSDs can see a big drop in performance if you read and write a lot and don't have TRIM support.

If you did one load of songs you should be ok.

My Columbus works from turning the key and selecting reverse, I get the tone to reverse, but the display take s a few seconds to show the Skoda logo and show the PDC display.

The tone works as does yours but the visual display stay say systems start/read for about 30 seconds. It only has about 13 gig of songs on it at the moment but I am starting to think it is the issue. I can't compare it to a standard drive as I bought the radio and put the drive in all at once having a Bolero before that. What do you mean by............If you did one load of songs you should be ok.......? Thanks.

I have no delay, if the Columbus is left on or off - start engine, sensors work as soon as i engage reverse, or get my hand to the button on the gear stick...
