Replacing electric door mirror - door panel removal

Featured Replies

Hi

I need to replace my electric drivers door wing mirror. I understand that I need to remove the driver door interior panel. I have removed the 3x torx screws at the bottom of the door panel but am having difficulty trying to remove the panel without damaging the plastic. Is there a step by step guide/instructions for removing this panel successfully? Thanks.

There's three Torx in the bottom, two screws behind the door handle assembly and one T20 behind the wing mirror joystick. Can't remember whose guide I used, but to get to the door handle, you need to lever the window control panel upwards (starting from the side nearest the door, so it "hinges" around the edge of the door handle closest to you). Once the window switches are disconnected and off, the back part of the handle slides forward towards the front of the car and then lifts off. That should expose a couple of big philips screws. Then to get the joystick off, it just pops off carefully, disconnect the electronics and put it to one side and then take the T20 screw out of there.

Once you've got all those out, there are loads of push clips so starting from the bottom of the door panel, pull it away from the door gently but firmly. You'll also need to disconnect the courtesy light or pop it out of the trim and leave it connected, whatever's easiest. Once you've got all the clips popped out you can lift the trim panel out of the window channel and away. Last thing to do is remove the door release cable from the slotted guide on the back of the trim and from the door handle.

Refitting is reverse of above, being VERY careful when refitting the door release handle else it can pop out/off and then you can't get the door open from the inside! :)
