Greetings from India

Featured Replies

Hi..I am Charu from Mumbai India,

I recently purchased Skoda Yeti 2.0 Elegance 4x4 .

I have done some offroading and twice it got stuck very badly once in mud and once in sand. I was able to take out the vehicle in both the situations, however both the times there were thick fumes from engine compartment and the smell was like plastic burning . I suspected clutch damage.. however when i took the vehicle for inspection.. everything is fine and the burning odor was due to mud stuck to the engine which was burning due to over heating. The problem is resolved and I am happy that there is no damage whatsoever. I would like comments from other members who have faced similar situations.

(Hello and welcome);)

Hi Charu,

Welcome and greetings from a fellow Yeti owner in India! I am based at Gurgaon (Delhi NCR).

Regarding your problem which you had, it has more to do with the on-road nature of the tyres which are supplied with the Yeti in India. These tyres just cannot do proper offroading - they will get damaged and also get you stuck in situations likes these. If you want to do this kind of offroading, suggest that you get good all-terrain tyres for the Yeti. Unfortunately, currently there are no options available in the stock size of 215/60 R16. I am waiting for some options to become available - MRF Wanderer/ Yokohama Geolandar AT-S, which are expected soon. Will let you know in case I am able to get them.

The Yeti is a smart 4x4, which can handle semi-offroading, but is not right for deep water wading / slush / dune bashing. For these conditions, you will need a high ground clearance vehicle with manual transfer case and proper AT/ MT tyres!

Also, the key to proper offroading lies in driver experience and training to drive in extreme conditions.

Regards,

Sameer
